Copdock Weekly Update 02/05/2025

Information to Share

Walking Bus - as you know, the walking bus started on Monday.  Thank you to everyone who participated thus far.  Please meet Amanda at 8:25am on the footpath opposite the bus stop if you would like to join in.

Bikeability - next week sees our Year 5 pupils undertaking bikeability.  Children need to bring their bike in on Tuesday morning along with their helmets.  Bikes can be stored securely at school overnight ready for Wednesday's session.

VE Day Celebrations - on Thursday 8th May, we will marking VE day by joining many others across the country to walk/run 80 miles.  This symbolises the strength and determination shown during WW2.  We would like families to show their support by making a small donation, all of which will be donated to RBL industries.  Please donate at this justgiving page.  Children are invited to wear red, white or blue on Thursday to mark VE day, and the kitchen will be offering a different menu on Thursday.  They will be serving fish and chips, or veggie nuggets and chips with ice lollies for dessert.  There will be the option of jacket potato, but not sandwiches.  Please see the menu attached.  You do not need to pre-order, but please be aware of this change.

Library Re-opening - next Friday sees our refreshed library being opened by Lisa Thompson, a local children's author.  You are invited in at 2:20pm to be a part of this celebration.  Just a reminder that the sharing assembly will be at 9am next week.  With the investment into our library comes a shared responsibility to keep the collection in excellent condition so that every reader can enjoy it.  To make expectations clear, we ask you to review the short agreement attached and accessed on our website here and confirm your acceptance of it via Arbor - along with the other permissions that you have been asked to acknowledge.

Parental Consent - we have lots of exciting trips and events coming up over the next term, it is essential that we have up to date information.  Please ensure you have logged into Arbor and checked emergency contact details.  Please also ensure you have completed the consent section - this is of paramount importance.  Previously forms would have been sent home or via the website to be completed.  These can now be updated instantly by yourselves through Arbor.

Gardening Club - please note children are welcome to keep a pair of old shoes or wellies in school so that they can join in with gardening club.  This will be held during break times on adhoc days dependent on staff availability and weather.  Participants do not need to apply or commit, but can join in on the day should they wish to.

Playground Sales - please ensure you take a look at the playground at the end of the day, we have seeds for sale for just 50p per pack, we have library books available - these all need to go, whether it's to your home or a charity shop, so please help us in making this happen.  The PTA are also running ice cream Fridays this term.

Labelling Reminder - as we start the summer term and the weather hopefully remains nice, please ensure jumpers, cardigans and fleeces are all named.  These often get discarded at playtimes and sometimes children forget to pick them up in their haste to return to the classroom.  Any items found lying around will be collated on the packed lunch trolley at the end of the day if we have been unable to identify the owner.  Clear labels would make this job much simpler.  We already have 4 or 5 on the trolley waiting to be reacquainted with their owner!  We also have a couple of lunchboxes and water bottles with no names on that haven't been collected for a few days.  Please ensure bottles and boxes are also clearly labelled.  Thank you.

Attendance - the school's attendance is now 96.4%.  The national and local attendance figure is 94.8%.  Well done everyone.  Every half term you will receive your child's % attendance through an Insight report.  Any queries please contact the office.

Cricket - please see attached a note from Copdock Cricket Club regarding what they offer in case the children are hungry for more following their sessions there on Tuesdays.

Go Fund Me - one of our pupils will be donating her hair to charity next week so if you would like to know more about her story and possibly donate please click the link

REMINDERS!!!!

Please ensure your child has a named coat or waterproof in school for break times - we do like to get outside even if it's a bit drizzly.
Those Swimming need their kits on Mondays.
Foxes need to remember clarinets for their lessons on Tuesdays.
Reception children need to wear Forest Schools clothing on Fridays and bring welly boots.
Earrings must be removed for PE lessons.  Please check the uniform policy to ensure the correct earrings are being worn.
Please ensure anything brought into school is labelled.  Look out for lost property on the lunchbox trolley each evening.
Playground sales - we still have lots of seeds on sale for 50p per pack.  We are also looking for donations for any of the books on the trolley.

words.PNG

Every week we encourage parents to support their children to learn and use new vocabulary.  In school we will be exploring the origin of new words, what they mean and how to use them effectively in context.  If you can encourage your child to use these words it would be really helpful!
