Admission & Transition Support

Admission

Bentley and Copdock follow Suffolk County Council’s admissions procedures, which do not discriminate against pupils with SEND. We will make reasonable adjustments and provide support to ensure successful access for new pupils with SEND.

Transition Support

We encourage visits prior to starting and offer further visits for pupils with SEND. We may write social stories for pupils with high anxiety or communication difficulties. Staff may visit pre‑schools/current schools and homes; induction sessions are offered in the summer term.

Between classes/year groups: pupils spend a morning with their new teacher; additional transition support is provided if needed.

Year 6: we liaise with the receiving high school (SENCo and Class Teacher). East Bergholt High School runs extra transition sessions for vulnerable pupils; the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) provides transition sessions exploring feelings and strategies.

Mid‑year moves: we liaise with receiving/previous settings, share assessment and progress, and arrange pre‑visits as appropriate. For new starters, we contact previous schools and offer induction sessions.

Bentley School's Christian Ethos

"Know that I am with you always," Matthew 28:20 We encourage the spiritual, social, moral and cultural development of the school family by embedding Christian values into everyday life. Our vision is for all children to be confident individuals, successful learners and responsible citizens who are well equipped for future life, knowing that God is with them always.
