Good morning Hedgehog families,

I hope you had a fantastic and restful half term and ready for the next 5 weeks!

Our learning behaviour of the week is, 'Enjoy Learning' and our value is 'Forgiveness'.

Vocabulary words this week are: 'vertebrate' and 'lifestyle'.

Reminders:

PE Kits to be worn on Monday and Fridays and bring swimming kits Monday

This week, we will be finishing reflections and assessments that we were meant to do before we broke up.

We will also be moving onto our new topic this half term called, 'A river runs through it'. I have attached the curriculum map below for further information. During the topic, we will be exploring the physical geography of rivers and its features. Then we will study the River Stour.

In science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats and in PSHE our focus is healthy lifestyles which we will link to our Key Experiences of cooking. In music, the children will be learning how to play a recorder and we will be inviting you in for the children to perform to you. RE, we will be exploring the Christian concept of 'sacrifice' and our big question, 'Is the cross a symbol of love, sacrifice or commitment for Christians?'.

Wednesday 2nd March Shared Learning 2.45pm

We are inviting families in on Wednesday afternoon, to give you and your child the opportunity to look through their books and they will be sharing maths and literacy reflections in their learning journeys. As part of this session we encourage you to add your views in your child's learning journey. I hope you will be able to join your child on the day.

World Book Day

As part of World Book Day this year, we are running a sponsored read to raise money to buy books for our class libraries and the class book bingos. The children will also be involved in choosing the books they would like to buy with the money.  This will run for from Monday 28th  February until Friday 4th March (World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March).  Any reads can be part of our school Reading Challenge where you have to read for 5 times a week for at least 10 minutes.  There will be a prize for the class that raises the most money!  All you have to do is:

  • Choose what you want to read - fact, fiction, audio-books, blogs, comics or magazines
  • Ask family and friends (never strangers) to sponsor you per book. per page, per 10 minutes
  • Write your reads (or ask a grown-up to) in your Reading Diary or Log Book/Rhino for the Reading Challenge
  • Bring your money into school along with the completed form (attached) by Friday 11th March 2022

On Friday 4th March we will be celebrating World Book Day in school with a range of activities. This year we have decided to boost the importance of reading for pleasure and will be encouraging children to explore a range of genres to find something special for them to enjoy.  We will not be dressing up this year.
