Copdock Weekly Update 08/09/2023

Important Information to Share

FridaySharing Assemblies

Family Sharing Assemblies begin next week, 15th September, 2:45pm. Please see the schedule sent home. Teachers will be available from 2:45pm today if parents have any questions about how their child has settled in but all class information will be shared on Wednesday evening at our welcome event (see below). Reception parents have been invited into class to hear a story alongside their child from 3pm.

Morning Drop off - It has been lovely seeing the children come into the school grounds so confidently this week. All children are to go onto the top playground and a member of staff will be there to supervise them.  If you are not coming onto the playground please try to clear the entrance area to school to alleviate congestion on the pavement. Thank you. Every Friday the children are encouraged to join in a 'dance session' to launch feel good Friday before joining their classes for learning.

PE days this term - staff have added details to their class blog for next week so don't forget to check in later today. Children will need to come to school dressed in their PE kit. They do not need uniform to change into but older children may want to change their t-shirt for hygiene reasons.

Kittens - Mondays & Thursdays    Squirrels - Mondays & Thursdays    Woodpeckers - Mondays (swimming & PE)    Foxes - Mondays & Wednesdays

After School Clubs and Lunchtime Football Club

After School club PE re-starts from Monday 11th September to Monday 17th October, 3:15 to 4:15pm.  This will be open to years 4 to 6.  Please let us know if your child would like to sign up for this.

Lego club will continue this half term on Tuesdays from 12th September, 3:15 to 4:15pm, this is open to pupils in years 1-4 and booking is via the Kids with Bricks website here.

We are also pleased to offer football training led by a Football Development East coach on a Tuesday lunchtime.  This will be split into two sessions, KS1 and KS2. It would be helpful for KS2 children to bring a packed lunch as they will have the training at 12pm with a later lunch at 12:30pm.  Please let us know if you would like your child to attend by Monday. Places will be offered in order of sign up but hopefully we will be able to accomodate all. (Reception children will have a session after lunch as part of their curriculum time)

School attendance is extremely important but if a child is not feeling 100% it can be a difficult decision whether to send them to school or not. The NHS has a useful guide to support parents decisions about when it might be appropriate to keep their child at home. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

Parent Worshops
Please find attached information about forthcoming parent workshops from The Psychology in Schools Team and the Under 18s Wellbeing Team. There are a range of themes to explore including supporting children with anxiety, behaviour and emotional challenges.

Every week we encourage parents to support their children to learn and use new vocabulary. In school we will be exploring the origin of new words, what they mean and how to use them effectively in context. If you can encourage your child to use these words it would be really helpful!

KS2 Christmas Cake Club - We would like to run this after half term but need adult helpers for each session to make it possible. It is an opportunity for Y3-Y6 to design and make their own Christmas cake to take home to share. Usually runs for 5 weeks and costs approx £20 for all sessions and of course the cake! We need to know now if you could help make it possible... please let us know!

Learners of the week

All children have worked hard this week to settle back into school life, reboot their brain muscles and show resilience with the hot weather. They are all Super Learners!

Next week we will be sharing who has demonstrated particular strength in our learning behaviour focus: Enjoy Learning

Our news will be sent out during the morning so you can attend the sharing assembly if you would like to and are able to at 2.45pm.

I've Been Valued

This half term our value in Collective Worship is all about 'thankfulness'. Our family leaflet is available here.
