Copdock Weekly Update 18/02/2022

Year 3/4 Trip to Suffolk Food Hall

On Tuesday, Woodpeckers class and Hedgehogs class from Bentley went on a school trip to Suffolk Food Hall.  Despite the rain, the children had a wonderful time conducting geography fieldwork activities and sketching the beautiful view of the Orwell Bridge.  The children were so excited to be able to go on a trip again and they thoroughly enjoyed the day.  The free hot chocolate that Suffolk Food Hall provided was most gratefully received too!  Plesae do take time to visit the Suffolk Food Hall if you haven't already - they have a wonderful restaurant and cafe as well as a very tempting food shop.  A big thank you to the PTA for covering the cost of the trip for Woodpeckers.

Assembly

Following our assembly on Thursday about how to stay safe when out and about, please find attached a parents leaflet connected to the assembly.

Online Safety

For those of you who were unable to attend the online safety workshop on 8th February, here's a link for you to see the recorded session.

After School Clubs

After half term, children in years 1, 2 & 3 will have an opportunity to take part in our football after school club.  Please see the attached flyer for details on how to book.  There will be 5 sessions starting on Monday 7th March.

Children in Reception, year 1-4 are invited to join Lego Club on Tuesdays.  This will start on Tuesday 8th March and run for 5 weeks from 3:15 to 4:15 - please see the attached letter for instructions on how to book and pay.

World Book Day

As part of World Book Day this year, we are running a sponsored read to raise money to buy books for our class libraries and the class book bingos.  The children will also be involved in choosing the books they would like to buy with the money.  This will run for two weeks from Friday 18th February until Friday 4th March (World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March).  Any reads can be part of our school Reading Challenge where you have to read for 5 times a week for at least 10 minutes.  There will be a prize for the class that raises the most money!  All you have to do is:

  • Choose what you want to read - fact, fiction, audio-books, blogs, comics or magazines
  • Ask family and friends (never strangers) to sponsor you per book. per page, per 10 minutes
  • Write your reads (or ask a grown-up to) in your Reading Diary or Log Book/Rhino for the Reading Challenge
  • Bring your money into school along with the completed form (attached) by Friday 11th March 2022

On Friday 4th March we will be celebrating World Book Day in school with a range of activities.  This year we have decided to boost the importance of reading for pleasure and will be encouraging children to explore a range of genres to find something special for them to enjoy.  To raise the profile of our 'book bingo' reads we will be holding a sponsored readathon so all children can raise money to purchase some new books for their class library.  Money raised in each class will be spent by children on reads they are keen to explore.  We will not be dressing up this year.  The sponsorship form is attached and book tokens will be sent home when we are back in school after half term.

Don't forget there is a revised menu for World Book Day on the Thursday - details of what's on offer were included in last week's newsletter.

Family Shared Learning

We are keen to enable a shared learning session after half term, week beginning 28th February, as long as we are safe to do so.  This usually happens at least twice a year, giving parents an opportunity to come into school, share the learning in children books and support their child to celebrate their successes.  To ensure this remains as safe as possible we will be splitting the days for each class throughout the week and asking that only one adult attends.  We do appreciate that this may create a challenge for some parents with more than one child, especially if you work, so please let us know if we can support alternative arrangements.

Days have been planned as follows...

Y3/4 Wed 2nd March 2:45pm

Y5/6 Thurs 3rd March 2:45pm

KS1 Fri 4th March 2:45pm – Y1/2 in hall, Rec in class/outdoor area to share what they like to do whilst in school.

Teachers and children will share their reflections on individual learning journeys as part of this session and parents are encouraged to add their views in their child's learning journey too.  We hope you will be able to join your child on the day.

Fundraising & Awareness

This coming half term sees lots of fundraising and awareness days.  We appreciate that some of you will want to support these days financially and some of you may choose to mark them for awareness.  As a school we will be marking the days with specific events or activities and if you choose to make a contribution to these events we will gratefully receive them on your behalf.  Please do not feel any pressure to donate to all events.

Next Half Term

We will be looking to hold our annual Easter service at the church this year.  We are hoping to hold it on Thursday 7th April.  An invitation will be sent to parents nearer the time, parking will be available at Copdock Hall.  ALL children will need collecting from the church at the end of the day – further details will be shared closer to the event, but don’t forget our traditional Easter bonnet parade will be an integral part of our service so get your thinking caps on now!

Website

Please ensure you have downloaded the app so that you can access the latest news and information affecting your child and our school.  When we arrange parents’ evenings next term you will need access to the website to book your slot.  You can also make payments via the website for dinners and when uniform orders are available.

School Lunches

Don’t forget KS2 meals are now priced at £2.50 per meal and you can now pay via the school website or using cash or cheques – please ensure any envelopes containing cash have the child’s name on.  Please ensure meals are paid as they are taken.  Once you hit 5 outstanding meals we will be requesting the money be paid before any further meals can be ordered.  The Suffolk County Council portal can also be used for payment - this has now got the correct price on it.

We try to send as few emails as we can during the week so it is really important that you read the weekly update – anything sent during the week is summarised on the weekly news.  We also try to give you a head’s up as to events that are coming up in the next fortnight.  Other information we are asked to share with you we tend to put on the website here this may include holiday clubs and activities, events or competitions.
