Copdock Weekly Update 25/09/2020

Harvest Festival

Please send in your donations with the children next Wednesday - there will be a box ready for them to be put in as the children come into school.  We are supporting West Villa once again this year.

Hot Dinners

As per the email earlier this week, hot dinners will be available to all children from next week.  A packed lunch from Norse is no longer an option.  We will be serving the children in 2 sittings.  Please remember there is a special menu on Thursday.  The deadline has now passed, if you have not pre-ordered from the Street Food Menu please send your child with a packed lunch on Thursday.  Hot dinners for children in KS2 are £2.40 per meal.  Please continue to send monies in a labelled envelope, these can be posted in the post box as the children come into school or as parents arrive to collect at the end of the day.

URGENT - ACTION REQUIRED

One of our older pupils across the Federation has been messaged on Tik Tok by an 18 year old that they didn't know, asking for sex.  If you allow your child to have Tik Tok before the recommended age of 13, it is important that you set it up with the right privacy settings and set parental controls to stop your child receiving direct messages from people who follow them.

All KS2 children in both schools have been spoken to as we know around half of them are using this site to upload videos.  It is vital you monitor what they are posting, and talk to them about only having followers on there that they know in real life.  They need to know who to tell if they find something that makes them uncomfortable too.  There are a lot of swearing and inappropriate dance moves in some of the videos, so you need to know who they are following too.

Guidance for parents can be found here.

Parents' Ultimate Guide to TikTok | Common Sense Media

As an online educator I've taken the time to do empirical and coal face research of tik tok's advantages and drawbacks. With that in mind, the most striking factor in that research has been the overwhelming well-informed and balanced opinions put forward by a small percentage of its users.

Congestion at School Gate

Please do not arrive before your allotted time in the mornings - the staggered start times are to keep numbers down to a minimum and avoid crossing bubbles.  Please wait with your child until they are called to go in - remember to keep socially distanced.  We appreciate this is tricky, especially with siblings in different key stages.  Foxes are due in at 8:45, Woodpeckers at 8:50 and Kittens & Squirrels at 8:55 - please try to position yourself along the path to avoid children having to pass one another - ie Foxes at the front, Squirrels towards the back.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

PTA

Please see our call out earlier in the week for voluteers and suggestions for the PTA for this year.

Kittens/Squirrels PE Monday

Please ensure your child's jumpers are fully named as we had some issues last week knowing which jumper belonged to who after PE.  With risks associated with COVID19 we will be quarantining all items for 72 hours if unnamed on Monday.

Parents Meetings

Thank you to those of you who have replied regarding attendance at our 'parents in partnership' meetings coming up.  It is great to know you are as committed as we are to support your children.  On arrival to the school site you will be greeted by a member of staff.  Please arrive 5 minutes before the start time and wait at the gate maintaining social distancing of 2 metres.  You will be directed to the school hall and asked to sit in a designated chair, filling in from the front.  At the end of the session, you will be asked to leave from the back one at a time.  Your child/ren will be there to greet you as you leave.  We will ty to keep to time but if the session runs over slightly your child will remain in class until you are ready to collect them.

If you are joining remotely, the sign in link will be sent the morning of the meeting.  Please sign in without video and audio.  If you wish to ask a question, please use the chat function and we will do our best to answer as many questions as possible.  All questions will be answered via a FAQ which will be sent home after the meeting.
