Copdock Weekly Update 22/01/2021

It has been great to see so many children uploading their learning to the discussions each day, well done and thank you! Teachers are beginning to focus in on specific pieces of learning now to support feedback.  Please make sure you check videos carefully for the focused piece of learning requested each day, but you can upload more than this if you want to share what you have been doing.

Children are also receiving a piece of work to be uploaded to the homework area of their dashboard. This is a closed area for each child where work will receive more detailed feedback and next steps. It is important that you support your child to upload to this area please. Instructions are available on the document sent home recently, also on the website 872858 (bentleycopdock.co.uk).

Staff Testing
As of next week, staff will be encouraged to take part in the LFD testing process twice a week.  This will help to identify any asymptomatic cases within school.  Should a member of staff test positive, parents must be aware that this could lead to short notice closure of a class bubble.  Notification will initially be given via text message and advice to follow sent via email.  Please make alternative arrangements in case this happens.

Live links

Due to some technical hitches, we have reset the links to each of the live sessions taking place throughout the week. These links are on each class discussion ready for the day. Please remember to log in with your child's name as you will not be admitted. We understand for some of you it will only show your name as a parent; this is fine too as long as we can identify you.

Well-Being Check In

Over the next few weeks, parents of children who are home learning, will have the opportunity to have a 10 minute chat with their child's class teacher(s).  The sessions will be held over Teams.  Please note that the slots will be strictly kept at 10 minutes to enable staff to cover all aspects of learning both remotely and on site for vulnerable and key worker children.  Please indicate which day/time would suit you best and we will do our best to allocate you a slot within your preferred session.  The available sessions are:

Kittens - Wed 3rd Feb 1-3pm , Mon 8th 1-3pm

Squirrels - Tue 2nd Feb 1-3pm, Wed 3rd 10-12 am

Woodpeckers - Tues 2nd 10-12am, Thu 4th 1-3pm

Foxes - Mon 1st Feb 1-3pm, Thu 4th Feb 10-12am

Virtual Skipping Challenge

We are encouraging all children to take part in the School Games virtual skipping challenge.  The children have various activities to do at a level they decide on, either bronze, silver or gold. They try to improve on their score each week, so are only competing against themselves. The details are on the blog as well as the score sheets. Here is a link to Dan the Skipping Man demonstrating the activities: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVPIN5ov_S7JczaV0GJQ7WA  Please support your children in taking part and feel free to join in too! They can post pictures or talk about how they are getting on through the discussion page.

Magazines of Interest

Normally we would send hardcopy magazines home with the children.  However, these are evolving into digital editions.  Please see attached the latest edition of "Raring To Go" magazine.  We have also been asked to share the link to the latest "Families Suffolk Magazine". https://bit.ly/FamiliesSuffolk_Jan_Feb21  Both are filled with a wealth of information and many suggestions of things to keep you and your children active, as well as useful advice and guidance to help with remote learning and working from home.

RSPB Big Bird Watch

If you listened to Mr Ross's story on Thursday you'll know that the RSPB big bird watch is coming up.  Don't forget, if you'd like some seed to encourage the birds into your garden, just call the office and you can arrange to collect some.  To find out more, visit https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/ and get looking and counting.

Supporting Family Well-Being

Please follow this link to find out about workshops for parents and carers.  These workshops are led by the NSFT Psychology in Schools team.  Topics covered in the workshops include; surviving lockdown mark 3, supporting our young people with anxiety and low mood and a session that looks at tools for managing uncertainty.  Information re how to request a place at these workshops can be found on the well-being pages using the above-mentioned link.

Bentley School's Christian Ethos

"Know that I am with you always," Matthew 28:20 We encourage the spiritual, social, moral and cultural development of the school family by embedding Christian values into everyday life. Our vision is for all children to be confident individuals, successful learners and responsible citizens who are well equipped for future life, knowing that God is with them always.
