Copdock Weekly Update 21/04/2023

Welcome back

This half term will be a little disrupted with Bank Holidays - please ensure you keep an eye on the key dates at the bottom of the newsletter, or the calendar on the website to ensure you know what is happening when!

Just a gentle reminder that the gate opens at 8:40am and the bell rings at 8:45am - children arriving after the bell are marked as late and should be accompanied to the gate by an adult to sign the late slip.  Please ensure you let us know as early as possible if your child is absent to ensure we can order dinners on time.  School finishes at 3:15pm.

Smart uniform should continue to be worn, even with the sun beginning to shine.  PE kit on specific days should also meet the requirements as per the website.  Please ensure all jumpers/cardigans/jackets etc are labelled as these tend to get left on the field or playground as the weather improves.  Any without names on will be placed on the lunch box trolley - please check here regularly for any lost property.

Woodpeckers Trip

On Thursday, Woodpeckers spent the day at Trinity Park visiting the School Farm and Country Fair.  A huge thank you to those parents who helped with transportation.  The children reported that it was very windy.  The highlights included the sheep show, gun dogs, the air ambulance, 4x4 rescue service and meeting Crazee!  They would definitely go again given the chance.

PTA Meeting

Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening starting at 8pm.  It will be a virtual meeting so please join via this link to see how you can get involved and help with upcoming events, or to float some new ideas.

Bikeability

Children in Year 5 will be taking part in Bikeability on 2nd & 3rd May.  Now is the time to ensure they have a road safe bike and helmet.  If you have any concerns about them cycling please do let us know in advance.  The first day is spent on the school site.  Pupils may be taken out on the road, whatever the weather, on the 2nd day provided they have demonstrated that they are safe and competent to do so.  Please see the letter sent home this week which is also available in the letters section of the website.

Coronation Event

As part of our special Coronation celebrations we will be inviting parents to join us at 9am on Thursday 4th May.  Weather permitting, we will be holding our Coronation outside on the playground.  Children and parents will be asked to wear red, white and blue where possible and bring any flags they may have at home to wave on the day.  Each class will be voting for a King and Queen who will be part of a short ceremony to launch the day.  If your child is selected we will let you know so you can consider what you would like them to wear.  We have robes and crowns in school which we will be using too.  Following the National Anthem and lots of cheering, we will continue activities throughout the morning in school and parents will be able to continue their day.  We expect the ceremony to be finished by 9:45am at the latest.

Morning activities will be followed by a Coronation Picnic Lunch.  The lunch will need to be ordered in advance using this form.  Children can of course bring their own packed lunch on the day too.  Please complete the form by Thursday confirming dinner options even if bringing a packed lunch.

Coronation Activity

Please see below a competition to design a card for the coronation, being run by James Cartilidge MP.

I am requesting that all local primary schools in South Suffolk ask their students to create a design that I could use for a card to send to the King, on behalf of my South Suffolk constituents, to wish him well on this historic occasion. The winning design would then be professionally printed on the front of the card and sent to the King at Buckingham Palace. Please may the designs be either A4 or A5 in size. I am afraid no glitter or 3D elements as the winning design will need to be scanned in order to be printed. I would be very grateful if you could send the student’s designs to me at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA by Monday 1st May 2023. Alternatively, designs can be emailed to me on this address if any of your pupils would prefer to create an electronic design. Bird Flu

We have been notified that there have been some cases of bird flu in the village.  We are therefore keeping our chickens in their enclosure for a little longer.  The children have also been advised not to touch any ill/injured/deceased birds.
