Copdock Weekly Update 20/11/2020

Anti-Bullying Week
We have marked anti-bullying week in school with wearing odd socks and a special assembly driven by our head pupils.  Please see the attached Police newsletter for more information.

Report Confirmation
Please do confirm via the form survey sent out on 6th November, that you have received and read your child's report, even if you have no comment to make or no requirement for a conversation with class teachers.  We need to ensure everyone has seen their child's report.  Thank you.

Flu Immunisation
For those of you who gave consent through the portal, you should have received a message confirming your child received the flu immunisation on Wednesday.  If you missed the portal opening, you should receive notification from the School Nursing Team offering an opportunity to get the nasal immunisation at one of their clinics.

Virtual Open Event
This year we hosted our first virtual open event for prospective parents, giving them an opportunity to view our school, meet some of our staff and find out more about starting school next September.  If you missed it and would like further information, please see our website in the first instance, and contact the school office for any specific queries.  For more details about applying for a school place please see the attached poster.

PTA Virtual Quiz Night
As we are not able to host an actual quiz night as we have in previous years, the PTA are launching a virtual version next Friday night!  Please take a look at the flyer attached or on the Facebook page for more information of how you can get involved.

PTA Christmas Cards - Last Few Packs Available
A big thank you to everyone who has purchased this year's PTA Christmas cards.  We still have a handful left for sale at £3.50 for 10 cards (and envelopes of course!).  You can purchase them here: https://www.pta-events.co.uk/copdockprimarypta
Chickens
As many of you are aware, we have some chickens on site.  We are very lucky to have a couple of volunteers from the village who take care of them 'out of hours' for us.  Unfortunately for us, and the chickens, one of our helpers is moving out of the village and therefore can no longer help us.  If you are able to give up some of your time to help look after our feathered friends it would be greatly appreciated.  Please do contact us if this is of interest to you.

Governor News
We are pleased to inform you that we have a new parent keen to fulfil the role of Parent Governor.
Lauren Bayliss-Fuller is a parent of a Year 1 child at Bentley School and has submitted this statement in support of her application:

My son attends Bentley school and it would be a fantastic opportunity to take an active role in supporting and helping the school to develop.

I have worked for the last 11 years as a Careers Adviser and most of the work I do is with adults age 16+. Often it is clear that their school experiences were negative and perhaps not what was needed to prepare them for the future, especially with their functional skills. It is clear to me that a positive primary education is what can empower a person and set them on a rewarding life journey. Being able to influence this in any way would be a wonderful thing to do.

The school has already had a fantastic impact on my son and I would like to chance to be able to give something back.

Parent Governor position are now held by:

Lauren Bayliss-Fuller - Bentley parent

Louise Moxon - Copdock parent

We do still have a vacancy on our whole governing board so please contact the office if you are interested in finding out more.

Blue Peter on YouTube

We have been asked to share the following with you (please also see attached flyer):

Blue Peter is the longest running kids TV show in the world and we are uploading videos to it that are suitable for 5-11 year olds. We have world record breaking challenges, arts and crafts, environmental videos, cooking and baking how tos, inspirational films, gaming, celebrity appearances, dance routines and music performances. We also feature ways of getting a Blue Peter badge, behind the scenes footage and extra content about our incredible presenters Adam, Lindsey, Mwaksy, Richie and Henry the Blue Peter dog.

If this interests you subscribe to https://www.youtube.com/bluepeter - (it’s obviously completely free to subscribe!) and don’t forget to watch the live programme on CBBC at 5.30pm every week, or on BBC iPlayer.

Christmas Cards

As with most things, we have been thinking how best to deal with Christmas cards this year.  If your child would like to send cards to their school friends we are not going to discourage them, however, there will be some steps in place.  There will be a separate box per class so please ensure the pupils name AND class is written on the envelope.  We are asking for cards to be brought in on Mondays and Tuesdays ONLY.  They will be placed directly into the class box on their way into school in the morning.  They will then be quarantined.  On Fridays they will be sorted and sent home with the children.

Christmas Lunch

Here is an early notification for you that in the last week of term we will be having our annual Christmas lunch in school.  However, with regard to the current circumstances we are doing it in 2 legs - KS1 on the Wednesday and KS2 on the Thursday.  These will need to be pre-ordered - please keep a close eye out for deadlines nearer the time.  The cost will be £2.40 for KS2 children.  There will be no cold option on the alternate day.  The menu will be circulated as soon as it has been agreed.

Christmas Tree Service
Again, this annual service will be a bit different this year.  The children will be making decorations as usual.  They will have the opportunity in bubbles to decorate our tree during the morning of Monday 30th November.  Parents will be invited to join us virtually from 2:45pm to help us launch advent and switch on the trees across the federation.  A link will be sent out next week.

Gifts For The Homeless
As in previous years, we will be collecting gifts for the homeless families being looked after at West Villa in Ipswich. If you can afford to buy an extra gift this year, we will be putting a collection together to go to the charity. Gifts need to be unwrapped please. Any donations of food, especially Christmas food would also mean a great deal to them if you are able. All donations need to be in by Monday 7th December please.

Christmas Shopping
Don't forget you can support our school by doing your online shopping via this link (there is no cost to you, but benefit to us):

Bags
We still have some bags available for sale, as per last week's newsletter.  Please see attached photographs for an indication of what's available.  If you don't see what you are looking for, please ask as there are many different designs.  Large back packs are £5, medium sized bags are £4 and the smaller bags are £3.  All the money raised will go to the school funds.
