Copdock Weekly Update 13/10/17

African Adventure: For a more detailed look at what Foxes and Adders got up to last week, take a look at the Blog on the website – there are photos and information aplenty. Here are a couple of pictures to give you an insight.

First Class Photos: Our new class of foundation pupils have had their photo taken together and will be featured in the local press on Wednesday 18th October.

Able Writers: Two of our squirrels went to Springfield Junior School this week for an able writers day. They both had a brilliant day and will be using what they learnt over the next few weeks back in class.

Phonics Workshop: Many thanks to all the parents/carers who attended the phonics workshop on Wednesday, hopefully everybody learnt something new. If you missed it and would like more information please contact the school.

Snack Shop: Snack Shop is now up and running at playtime. 10pence per item up to a maximum spend of 20p.

NSPCC: The spelling challenge raised a fantastic £521 for NSPCC – there is still time to get your forms and money in on Monday. Well done everyone and thank you all.

EBHS Science Day: On Tuesday year 6 went to East Bergholt High to take part in their science day.

Football Tournament: Whilst year 6 were learning about science, some of the year 5 pupils joined their teammates from Bentley for a football tournament at Inspire. For more details and photos please see the gallery section of the website.

Menu Change: Next week there will be a change to the menu – the usual Friday offering will be presented on Thursday next week as the Friday is a PD day. The options on Thursday are therefore breaded salmon fillet; fish fingers or Quorn frankfurter hotdog – all with chips, seasonal vegetables, baked beans & salad bar followed by chocolate and coconut flapjack.

Shared Learning: The first week after half term will see the start of our shared leaning sessions in class - Friday 3rd November. These sessions are a special opportunity for you to come into school to share your child's learning journey so far and look through any books. For our Reception children, who have less written records of learning, the session is also a chance to explore the physical environment and let them talk you through and show you the activities they like to do. Class teachers will be on hand to answer any questions about the Early Years Learning Journey too.

Parents and children have previously found this a really helpful way of sharing learning successes and identifying how they can support learning at home with their child. As last year, there will be comments from your child and their teachers expressing views on learning skills and progress so far this year. We really value the comments you leave too about how you feel your child has moved their learning on this year or the support you have given at home to achieve key skills. Reference to what they have enjoyed is helpful too.

This is a really important part of our home-school partnership, so we hope you can attend. We appreciate that some of you cannot escape work, so please feel free to catch your child's class teacher to arrange a time before or after school to come in and share this special moment with your child.

Parents Evenings - Y1 to Y6: Wed 29th 3.30-5.30pm and Thurs 30th November 5-7pm. As last year, Y5/6 will be holding longer consultations and these will be spread across the week at varying times. We will notify you once the website is set up so you can book your appointments. Reception children will be having another shared learning session in December and information about this date will be sent out soon.

Coffee & Chat for Autism: As part of her learning promise Tianna is working hard to raise money for Autism. She is busy making cakes for a coffee and chat morning at The Brook Inn on Wednesday 18th October from 10 to 11.30am. Please come along and support this worthwhile cause, and help Tianna meet her promise.
