Copdock Weekly Update 01/07/2022

Fuel Protest

We have been informed that there may be fuel protests on Monday morning which may disrupt travel - please allow extra time to get to school for 8:40am.  It is likely that the A12/14 connection is going to be affected which has a knock-on effect for the village.

Activity Week Summary

Foxes have had an amazing week trying new things and working on existing skills.  Thank you for bearing with us, as you can imagine, it's quite a feat to pull it all together & we did hit a couple of bumps in the road.  Ultimately the children have had a fantastic time and should sleep well this weekend!

U11 Quadkids

On Tuesday, some of our Foxes are heading to Northgate for Quadkids.  Those children representing the school will be able to have a hot lunch before attending if they choose to.  They will need PE kits (with a warm top), plenty of water and some snacks.  Please ensure they have sun cream and a hat, and a raincoat as appropriate.  Please ensure you have arranged collection from Northgate at 5:45pm - please be aware it could overrun.  If there are any issues with collection please ensure the office is notified.

Reception Parents Meeting

Miss Cross would like to invite all the parents of the current reception year group into school for a meeting on Wednesday 6th July at 3pm to set out the plans for next year.

PTA/Community Fete

The PTA is once again involved in organising the Community Fete to be held on Saturday 16th July.  Please see the email sent earlier in the week for you to volunteer some time to help on the day.  As part of the preparation in school, we will be holding a dress down day on Friday 8th July - children are invited to come into school in non-uniform in exchange for a bottle to supply the bottle stall on the day.

KS1 Trip

Children in Key Stage 1 (Kittens & Squirrels) are looking forward to a trip to Mersea Island.  The deadline for returning slips and money is Monday 4th July.  If you have paid online, don't forget you still need to send the form in!

Bikeability

Year 5 children should have returned their Bikeability forms by today's deadline.  As they were staying overnight on Thursday we have extended the deadline to Monday.  Please ensure ALL Bikeability forms are returned on Monday without fail.

PGL Payments

Don't forget, children in years 4 & 5 can pay for their residential trip in instalments.  This can be done through the school website in denominations of £5 or £10.  Don't forget to keep your payment card up to date.  If paying by cash or cheque - please send your payment card with the payment and we will update it and return it.  7 people have finished paying for the trip, while 8 people have only paid the £30 deposit so far.  Payment needs to be made in full by the end of September.

Dinner Monies

As we approach the end of term, can we please ask that meals are paid for as they are taken, or even better, in advance.  All monies will need to be settled please by Friday 15th July to enable our banking to be completed ahead of the summer holidays.

Class Photos

Class photos, taken last week are now available to purchase via Bentley Photographic.  The deadline to order them for delivery to school is 7th July.  After this date you will be charged delivery to your address.  Please see the tokens sent home via the children and the email sent earlier in the week with the links on.  If you have lost or not received the tokens with the codes on, please contact [email protected] and they will be able to assist you.

News

Mrs Debbie Knights will be moving on to pastures new after being part of our team for many years.  Debbie has been a valued member of our team, taking on the role of Midday for many years before growing her expertise in supporting children to develop and apply their learning skills in class.  We wish her the best of luck as she steps into new challenges.

If you know anyone who would like to apply for the role of Midday Supervisor please do pass on our details so we can chat more about the role.

School Council and Head Pupil Elections

We will be holding School Council and Head Pupil elections before the end of term so please do speak to your children about these opportunities at home. Both roles will require children to reflect on the skills required to fulfil these roles and children will need to deliver a speech to the whole school explaining why they will be a good candidate for this position.

Head Pupil elections will be open to current Year 4/5 pupils. A copy of the job description will be available in the classroom to support applications.

Elections will be held on:

  • School Council Elections - Thursday 14thJuly, at 9am.
  • Head Pupil Elections - Monday 18thJuly, at 9am.

Trophies

If you were lucky enough to achieve an award last summer, could you please return it to us by Friday 8th July in preparation for this year's presentations.  Thank you.

Grab & Go Thursday Lunch

Next Thursday's grab & go lunch will be burger in a bun & wedges accompanied by crunchy veg sticks and followed by a rocky road krispie bar.  Vegetarian burgers are also available, as are jacket potatoes.  There is no need to pre-order these, but please be aware the usual week 2 menu will not be available of Thursday.  This will be the case for the rest of the Thursdays of this term - we'll notify you of the option in the newsletter the week before.
