Bentley Weekly Update 25.11.16

We’re full! It’s official! We have reached our maximum number of pupils in school and this is thanks in no small part to the vast majority of parents speaking about the school in such a positive way to the wider community. There is a band of parents and grandparents that lend their support to the school frequently and in many ways, and to those people we say a massive thank you.

It’s nearly here! That ‘C’ word is only a month away now. We are all getting very excited (and covered in glitter) in preparation for the various events coming up. Lines to learn for the Christmas plays should have come home already, and letters about costumes will be sent home next week. No homework will be issued now until after Christmas (apart from one more set of spellings on Monday) as we would like the children to focus on learning their lines and the words to the various songs.

Decoration Making – As per the newsletter last week, we will be holding our annual Christmas decoration making afternoon this coming Tuesday, 29th November. Please do come and join in the fun, alongside your child, from 1pm.

Year 1 and 2 woodwork – One of the requirements of the National Curriculum is that children in years 1 and 2 take part in a woodworking activity that includes using a saw!!! The children have said that they would like to make photo frames to sell at the Christmas Fayre, which will involve sawing and sticking and we are asking for parents to support their project. Ideally, we would like parents to come and work with their child ono to one for 30 minutes on one of the days listed below. We do understand that for some parents, this is impossible due to work commitments, in which case please let us know asap. Those of you who are able to come along, if you would be willing to stay a little longer and support other children, please let us know. Please let us know what time you could come in on one of the following days:

Monday 5th Dec morning or afternoon (pm - Year 1 only as year 2 swimming)

Thursday 8th Dec morning

Friday 9th Dec morning or afternoon

Monday 12th Dec morning or afternoon (pm - Year 1 only as year 2 swimming)

Tuesday 13th Dec morning

Wednesday 14th Dec morning or afternoon

Thursday 15th Dec morning

PE Kits – We still have a number of pupils with either no PE kit in school or only partial kit. Some children only have shorts and t-shirt in the bag and as we take PE outside even in cold weather, they really do need tracksuit bottoms and a warm top as well. Please support us in ensuring your child has a full, named kit in school at all times as we take part in different activities throughout the week. Thank you.

Thank you to all those parents who came back with such a prompt reply regarding Christmas dinners and singing at Bypass Nurseries.

MusiClubz – We had a good response to the letter that came home about guitar and drum lessons during lunchtimes next term. We are just waiting for confirmation about which day it will be on then another letter will come home asking you to register on the company’s website.

St Nicholas’ Day – If you are new to the school, you may not have heard about our annual visit from St Nicholas. Every year the children bring a shoe into school and leave it under the Christmas tree and every year St Nicholas pays us a visit and leaves goodies in the shoes overnight. St Nicholas Day is Tuesday 6th December so children will need to bring a spare shoe into school on Monday 5th December in preparation. A small shoe like a plimsoll would be perfect rather than a boot or something large.

Christmas Plays – Due to our increased numbers, we have decided to put on two performances of each class’s Christmas plays and this year it will be on Tuesday 13th December. Each class will perform their play in the afternoon and again in the evening. We hope in this way more family members will be able to share the children’s performances. Look out for more details as timings and numbers etc are confirmed.

Parent surveys – Many of you are probably aware that there have been various glitches with the parent survey that went live a couple of weeks ago. The company who manages our website have hopefully now resolved the issues and the survey should be accessible to all parents with a log in. If you need your log in details resent to you, please get in touch with the school office.
