Bentley weekly update 6.10.2023

Important Information to Share

Macmillan - Thank you to everyone who supported our Macmillan afternoon last Friday, either by joining us or donating cakes or both!  We raised an amazing £118.35 Thankyou!

Data Collection & Permissions - each year we are required to check that the data we hold for you is correct and to re-confirm some of the permissions you have agreed to in the past.  You should receive an email today with a link to 2 Forms - it is very important that you complete both of these - they should only take a few minutes each.  The deadline for completion is Wednesday 18th October.  These are only being sent to years 1-6 as we have only just collected data and permission from our reception parents, however, please do advise us at any time if any details (phone numbers, addresses, medical information) change via the admin email address.

World Mental Health Day: wear something yellow - On Tuesday 10th October it is world mental health day. We are keen to recognise this day with the children so please encourage them to come to school wearing something yellow. As it is a PE day please ensure clothing is suitable; anything from socks to a headband will do but the brighter the better! We will be sharing information about how to maintain positive mental heath with the children in assembly.

Activity Week 16-19th Oct - We are looking ahead to the Activity Week coming up and wanted to give you some warning in advance.  This is mainly aimed at Adders class, with some activities including Hedgehogs, and some for our younger pupils.  On the Wednesday, Adders will require a packed lunch as they will be going sailing at Alton Water.  On the Thursday, children in years 1-6 will require a packed lunch, those in years 4-6 may return to school after our usual finish time.  Keep an eye on the newsletter and class blogs for confirmation of activities and what will be needed on each day.

The Big Ambition - We have been asked to share this online survey with as many children as we can on behalf of the Children's Commissioner.  This survey is for all children and young people aged 6-18 and for parents/carers who can complete the survey on behalf of children aged 0-5. This will ensure the childrens commissioner also hears from early years settings.  Adults can also assist children who are unable to complete the survey independently.  The survey can be completed here: www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigambition

Christmas Shoebox Appeal - We are supporting the Romanian Christmas Family Shoebox appeal this year - please see leaftlet attached and link Amen Trust for information.  We will be collecting for 2 shoeboxes per class and would appreciate any donations of items, as detailed on the leaflet, from Monday through to Friday 3rd November when the boxes will be collected.  If you would like to make your own shoebox that would obviously be lovely. If anyone has any shoeboxes at home that you  no longer need, please send them into school. Thank you

Policy updates - Our website has been updated with some reviewed policies for SEND and Attendance. Bentley CEVC & Copdock Primary Federation: Policies (bentleycopdock.co.uk)

Drinks Bottles - to encourage healthy eating and drinking, we ask that children have water in their drinks bottles, where possible,  rather than juice or squash.  We do, however, appreciate that some children need weak juice adding to encourage them to drink more.

Governor Update - Please see an update from our Governors. They look forward to seeing more of you throughout the year. 20767388 (bentleycopdock.co.uk)

REMINDERS!!!!

Christmas Cake Club - for Yrs 3 - 6 on Thursdays after school - we are pleased to advise that Christmas Cake Club will be going ahead on Thursdays after school until 4.15pm.  It is for 5 weeks beginning Thursday 9th November. The cost is £25.00 which can be paid via cash, cheque (in a named envelope to the office) or by spider. Thank you to parents who have offered their help, it is much appreciated.

Every week we encourage parents to support their children to learn and use new vocabulary. In school we will be exploring the origin of new words, what they mean and how to use them effectively in context. If you can encourage your child to use these words it would be really helpful!
