Bentley Weekly Update 31/01/20

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘narrow’ and ‘wide’

Yr1/2 - ‘mechanism and ‘chronology’

Hedgehogs – ‘characteristics’ and ‘environment’

Adders – ‘density’ and ‘economic’

Pupil Questionnaires – Thank you to everyone who got the pupil questionnaire in by Tuesday. We will use the answers to plan some exciting learning in the coming terms.

Missing Uniform – We have had a series of school jumpers going missing in school. Even when they have been clearly named, they have been disappearing. This is predominantly happening in Wolves class, but we have also had a couple of incidents in Hedgehogs. Most worryingly though, a number of brand new school jumpers appear to have been removed from the cupboard where they are stored. We do not make profit on the jumpers we sell, so the cost of these missing items will impact directly on the school budget, money that should be spent on the children! The families who have had jumpers go missing are also counting the cost! Please, please check the uniform you have at home in case your child has accidentally picked up another child’s jumper. If you know the location of any of these missing jumpers, but don’t want to talk to us, please leave them in a plastic bag by the front door anonymously. We would ask the person who took jumpers from the cupboard to send in the money for them, again anonymously if necessary. Thank you.

Reading Challenge Unfortunately, despite last week’s newsletter, even less children have achieved 5 reads this week. We want all children at Bentley School to develop a love of reading, and don’t forget, for the younger ones, a story they share with you counts as a read if they are joining in too. This week:

4 children in Adders did not achieve 5 reads

6 children in Wolves did not achieve 5 reads (this is better than last week)

14 children in Hedgehogs did not achieve 5 reads – that is almost 3 quarters of the class

Please record your child’s reads and support them to do as much as possible (older children can record their own reads).

Wolves Tea Afternoon – We have only had one family confirm that grandparents will be coming along to the Wolves Tea Afternoon being held on Wednesday 12th February. We would welcome grandparents to the event and we would love to hear about their experiences of growing up. Do get in touch if you can make it.

Homework Books and Diaries – Children need to have their homework books and diaries in school every day. Please check your child has theirs in their bag each day. Thank you.
