Bentley Weekly Update 27.01.17

Can you believe another week has gone by already? It has certainly been a jam packed week.

Bowling Treat – 6 of our Yr 3/4 pupils were selected to represent the school at an event organised to celebrate children’s hard work and good behaviour at school. 12 schools took part in this special bowling competition at Kingpin and our wonderful team came third overall! Poppy, Katie, Myles, Alena, Charlie and Isla P showed great team work and as you would expect behaved as excellent ambassadors for the school. Alena got one of the highest scores at the whole event, 124 points including 2 strikes. Well done to you all.

Messy Science – Wolves have been undertaking some very exciting and sometimes messy science experiments this week including what happens when you mix water, oil, vinegar and other substances and why an orange with its peel on will float, but will sink when the peel is removed. This and other experiments have been fantastic hands on learning experiences and we certainly have grown our brains this week!

Big Bird Watch – Our Big Bird Watch was launched this week with a special assembly by our Chair of Governors, Dennis Kell. We will be monitoring the birds in the school grounds and encouraging them to visit our school (Eco Council have even made their own fat balls) and we would encourage you to get involved with this national project at home as well. More information can be found on the RSPB website https://ww2.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/

Adders – Thank you to those parents who have spoken to their children about the importance of having their homework book and log book in school every day. It has certainly been better this week, however, there were still a number of children who were not equipped and ready to learn. Please make sure your child understands that they are responsible for making sure they have everything they need in their school bag. Homework – we have had homework handed in using some very strange and wonderful colours! Written pieces need to be completed with either a pencil or black writing pen and numeracy must always be done in pencil. All children in years 3, 4 and 5 need to continue to learn the Mayan creation story, years 3 and 4 have reading homework and year 5 have both reading and maths homework. If your child is in year 5 and you are unsure on how to use the methods we use in maths at school, have a look at the maths bag that was sent home and in particular the book as it has a wealth of information in it about year 5 maths.

Wolves and Hedgehogs – Many children in years 1 and 2 still have abacus games outstanding – if you are having problems logging on to the site, please speak to either Mrs Gunn or Mrs Rudge who will be happy to talk you through it and provide with your child’s log in details if they have gone astray. All log in details for your child should be on a card stuck in to their reading record. Hedgehogs need to continue reading the Quest to Stop Blorg adventure story every day. This will help them so much when they come to write their own adventure stories next week. They also need to continue their 2x, 5x and 10x tables. Hedgehogs have been looking at 3D shapes, if they would like to bring a 3D shape in from home to discuss in class, they would be welcome to.

Coffee and Chat – Following the PTA meeting last week, we have put a date in the diary for a coffee and chat session at 2:30pm on Thursday 23rd February. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss positive solutions to the parking situation outside the school and we would welcome any ideas to alleviate the pressure at drop off and pick up times.

Tuesday 7th                      Feb Safer Internet Day

Friday 10th Feb                Last day of half term
