Bentley Weekly Update 12.05.17

SATs over for Year 6 – We are exceedingly proud of our Year 6 pupils as they composed themselves and did their very best during SATs week this week. Each one of them demonstrated our learning values, particularly perseverance and we congratulate them all on their fantastic attitudes. Have a lovely relaxing weekend year 6!

Sharing Learning in Family Assemblies – A few people have asked again for the dates of when children are sharing their work in family assembly this term. We have attached the table with dates on again at the end of this update for your records.

Christmas DVDs – Only a few families have ordered their DVDs of the Christmas performances. Alison Partridge has a number available so if you would like a memento of your child’s seasonal performance, please do go and speak to her – they are just £2.50 each, bargain!

PTA Request - Our summer fete is not far away now and we have been working very hard behind the scenes to make it a great event for all! We are running a variety of stalls and are still in need of some volunteers to man them please. They are split into time slots so you won't miss any of the fun! If you are able to help please feel free to contact me or the school office. Thank you, from Aimee (Poppy and Hugo's mum) PTA chair.

Walk to School Week – Hopefully you have all read the leaflets and posters about Eco Council’s Walk to School Week next week. If your child walks to school (for those outside of the village, walking from the memorial still counts) they can go and find the Eco Council desk on the playground and get their scented sticker. In addition, next Tuesday is Happy Shoesday! Where if you donate just £1 you can wear any shoes or slippers you like at school that day (nothing with wheels though please). All funds raised will be added to the School Council pot for the end of year treat for all the children. Mrs Gunn will be at the War Memorial at 8am every morning next week to meet morning club children so that they can still take part.

Homework Books – Despite pleas over the weeks, a number of children are still not bringing in their homework books – they need these in every day! A number of children are losing out on their lunch or break times to complete work not completed at home. Please encourage your child/ren to complete their homework in good time and bring their books into school. They have all been spoken to about this. Wolves class children also need to make sure that they are completing 5 reads a week and that these are being recording in their reading records. If your child has lost their reading record, please speak to either Mrs Rudge or Mrs Verow.

Teeth and Dandelions – Thank you to all those people who have brought dandelions in for the chicks and chickens, please do keep them coming in – they love them! A reminder also please about donating any teeth, should your child lose a milk tooth, for a science experiment in Wolves. Thank you.

SEND Roadshow – Suffolk County Council are holding a number of roadshows for parents and carers with updates on SEN provision in the county. The Ipswich roadshows are as follows:

  • Monday 22 May | 3.30pm – 6pm | The Bridge School, Sprites Lane, Ipswich (childcare facilities provided)
  • Wednesday 31 May | coffee morning drop-in | 9am – 12pm | Castle Hill Community Centre, Highfield Rd, Ipswich

Suffolk Libraries is appealing for volunteers to help support this year’s Summer Reading Challenge and to help inspire thousands of children to get reading this summer. The idea is for young children to read six library books of their choice and collect special stickers and other incentives along the way. A key part of the campaign is encouraging children to visit the library and speak to someone about the books they’ve read. The role of volunteers is vital to the success of the Summer Reading Challenge and it’s a chance to really make a difference to children’s reading and literacy skills. You just need to be able to come to the library for an hour or two every week during the holidays. Anyone interested can contact their local library or register online via https://www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/events-activities/summer-reading-challenge/
