Bentley Weekly Update 11/05/18

SATs – Next week year 6 pupils will be sitting their SATs between Monday and Thursday. It would be really useful if we could limit some of the distractions; if possible, please could you avoid buzzing on the front door or phoning the school between 9am and 11am on these days. Emails will be checked regularly for any urgent messages. Thank you so much in anticipation for your support.

MP Visit – We are very excited to tell you that on Friday 8th June, we will be welcoming James Cartlidge MP to the school, when he will be presenting the school with a gift. There will be a special assembly at 2:15pm on the day to which parents / carers / family members are warmly invited. We will then have our sharing learning session in the classrooms straight after. Do come along if you are able.

Royal Wedding Lunch – Thank you to those parents who replied to say that their child would like to the special street party lunch on the 17th May. We do need to get final figures, so please indicate on the sheet in the playground whether your child will be having the lunch on the day or not. Thank you.

Active Schools - The first 2 Active Schools sessions were a great success this week. They will continue at 8:30am every Tuesday and Wednesday for the term. All children are welcome and it is completely free.

Sports Day – The date for this year’s event has now been confirmed for Thursday 5th July (good weather willing). As in previous years, we will walk the children to the field for 12 noon and have a picnic lunch with parents / carers who are able to come along. Every child will need a packed lunch, drinks bottle, sun hat and sun cream. Unfortunately, one of the trees that we have traditionally used for shade has become diseased, and is due to be removed in the next couple of weeks, so if you have any easy to put up gazebos you can bring along with you to help give the children some extra protection, we would be very grateful. Sports day has always been good fun and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.

Year 1 and 2 – Please could you practice with money with your child at home, simple things like recognising the different coins and finding different ways of making an amount, say 20p, using different coins. The other area we are looking at in class at the moment is telling the time. Year 1 are learning about o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past – year 2 are in addition to this looking at the 5 minute intervals. Again, it would be really useful if you could activities at home with your child to support this, for instance working out how long until bedtime / dinner etc.

Non-Uniform Day – There will be an optional non-uniform day on Friday 25th May in return for donations to the PTA bottle tombola. On the same day, there will be a PTA cake sale after school.

Year 4 Sleepover – Every year we have a sleepover for pupils in year 4 in preparation for the residential trip in October. The date for this year’s sleepover has now been changed to Friday 22nd June. We will transport pupils over to Copdock after school where the fun will begin the moment we arrive! A letter with further details will be sent out closer to the time.

And finally……..the first chick of the year has hatched today!!! The children are thrilled about it and it has been named Kovu.
