Bentley Weekly Update 04/12/20

Words of the Week– This week’s words are:

Reception – ‘half’ and ‘wide’

Yr 1/2 – ‘evident’ and ‘source’

Hedgehogs – ‘insulator’ and ‘deforestation’

Adders – ‘streamlined’ and ‘pulley’

Report Confirmations - We have still only had a handful of parents confirm they have seen and read their child's report. Please email in to the school to confirm you have read your child's report.

Virtual Christmas Fayre – During family assembly next Friday, we will be holding our virtual Christmas fayre. The raffles will be drawn and prizes named, ready to be quarantined for distribution the following week. Hopefully you have all seen the order form for taking part in all the fun and games, it is attached again to this email just in case! The stunning wreath up for grabs in one of the PTA raffles has now been delivered by Bentley Blooms. We are exceedingly grateful to them, it is beautiful!

Christmas Jumper Crazy! – We are planning to have 3 days of Christmas jumpers this year; Wednesday 16th, Thursday 17th and Friday 18th December will all be days that children can wear a Christmas jumper if they would like to. Of course, this is completely optional.

PGL - We have been in discussion with PGL to re-arrange the Adders’ residential which would normally have been and gone.  We can now confirm that we have managed to book from the 5th to the 9th July!  We are very happy to report that despite this being the prime time for them, they are honouring the original price. Look out for a slightly revised kit list coming your way nearer the time!

St Mary’s Church - There will be a Christmas tree in Bentley churchyard near the church building and you are invited to help us decorate it by bringing a decoration of your own and hanging it on the tree, which will be covered in lights.  The tree will be in place from Monday 7th on.  There is also a memory tree in the porch for you to hang a wooden angel on with the name of a loved one.  Angels and pens are beside the tree.

Gift Giving - We have been asked about possibility of sharing gifts with staff this Christmas. Whilst the most precious gift is often a few kind words of thanks, if you do choose to send a gift in to school, please label with the teachers name and send via the office where -a box will be waiting.

Last Day of Term – As we are live streaming the pantomime on the last day, family assembly will be at 11:30am on Friday 18th December.

Maths Bags - A few years ago, our PTA helped us to purchase equipment to enable all children to have access to a Maths Bag as a library loan.  These are now available for loan for the remainder of the year.  The KS2 bags include a reference book to help children practise key concepts at home, either by themselves or with adult support.  All of the bags contain practical equipment to use for maths and contain a Parent Guide to place value and number to support you with ideas of things your child should be practising at home.  As the bag contains practical equipment, there is a cost to parents if the bag is not returned complete at the end of the Summer Term.  We don't mind, for example, if some number cards get lost or the white board pen runs out, but if you lose the Numicon pieces or base 10 equipment, you will be asked to pay to replace them.  Parents have found them really useful in the past to support children with maths at home.  Please email the Office or speak to your child's class teacher if you would like to loan a Maths Bag for the remainder of the year.

Bentley School's Christian Ethos

"Know that I am with you always," Matthew 28:20 We encourage the spiritual, social, moral and cultural development of the school family by embedding Christian values into everyday life. Our vision is for all children to be confident individuals, successful learners and responsible citizens who are well equipped for future life, knowing that God is with them always.
