Bentley Weekly Update 02.02.18

Grammar Workshop at risk! – Due to such a low response from parents (3 from Copdock and 2 from Bentley) we are considering whether the workshop can go ahead next Thursday. If child care is the issue, you can bring your child with you but we do need to know numbers. The workshop (from 6:15pm at Copdock) will be a fun interactive look at how you can support your child’s grammar and spelling at home and is open to all parents. A great deal of time and effort has gone into the preparation for this workshop and has been planned in response to parent requests for more information on these areas. Please get in touch by Tuesday if are planning to come along so we can make a decision about the event.

We are planning to take part again this year. If you do not want your name to be printed in the newspaper, please email into school by Tuesday 6th February.

Image result for £1 coinGrow your £1 Enterprise – The children will be coming home with a pack on Monday and a £1 coin to take part in this initiative to promote enterprise and develop our own little band of entrepreneurs. We have been talking in class about how to grow our money and what plans children could put in place to grow their own micro businesses. We can’t wait to see the schemes that our families come up with!

Christmas DVDs – Alison Partridge has asked us to pass on her thanks for your support with the Christmas DVDs. Your purchases mean that she has been able to donate £95 to the PTA pot!

Sporting Achievements – Our sporting achievements board celebrates those sporting awards and certificates earned by the children in sport outside of school. It is looking rather bare at the moment! We would love to have some new pictures to put up, celebrating all those excellent accomplishments that pupils have had in their chosen area of sport. It could be a picture of them holding a swimming certificate or receiving a medal for a fun run, anything sporting. Please email / send in any photos you take so we can share in each other’s successes. Thank you.

Sports Tokens – Look out for tokens in the Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times from Monday. We are really hopeful that with the support of our families and their extended communities, we can reach a useful total of tokens to exchange for sports equipment for our federation. A token will be published in the newspapers every day from February 5 to April 14, 2018; there will be two tokens in Saturday publications and also watch out for bonus token days as the campaign develops. The school with the most tokens as an average of total pupils will win meaning that even we as a small school could still win the big prize of £5000 of sports equipment!

Image result for boss babyPTA Film Night – There are still a few tickets left for the pyjama film night on Friday 9th February. 3.30-6.00pm; bring your pyjamas to change into and come along to watch 'BOSS BABY' being held straight after school in the hall. It is £3 per person and includes popcorn, a drink & pizza! Tickets available from Aimee (Parents are also welcome to come but are not essential!).

Wolsey Theatre Visit Years 4, 5 and 6 – Wolsey Theatre are coming to visit years 4, 5 and 6 on Monday 5th March. They will be putting on a performance at Copdock about difference and diversity. Children in these year groups need to be dropped at Copdock School that morning, and will be brought back to Bentley in time for lunch. If they have younger siblings that need to get to Bentley, they can be dropped off at 8:30am to give you time to get over to Copdock.

KS2 Running and Cross Country Club – The after school sports club on Thursday after half term will be a cross country and running club open to all children in years 3-6. It will run for 6 weeks from Thursday 22nd February and will cost £18 per child. If you would like your child to take part in this club, we need to know by the first day back after the half term break, Monday 19th Feb. We are hoping to run in areas outside of the school grounds, more information will follow as this is confirmed.

Image result for education cityWolves Class Education City – We subscribe to a wonderful online learning platform called Education City for those children in Key Stage 1. Not only do they have access to this great program at school but we have also paid for them to be able to have access from home. Your child’s log-in details have been stapled in the back of their reading records and we would urge you to use the facility as a great way to boost phonics learning. Just go to educationcity.com and log on to start enjoying this resource!

Parents Evenings – time changes – We have had to change the times of the parents’ evenings in March due to a clash with the cross country competition on 21st March. The times will now be Weds 21st March 5-7pm and Thurs 22nd March 3:30-5:30pm. We will let you know when the slots are available to book on the website.
