For the second part of this week, we are going to be focusing on persuasive features.

Today you need research the word ‘persuade’ and have a go practising the features below.

Persuade research:

  • What is the definition of persuade?
  • Are there any synonyms for persuade?
  • Is it an adjective, noun, adverb or verb?
  • Can you draw something you would like to persuade people to do?
  • Can you find information about its etymology (where I comes from/how the word has formed)?

Persuasive features:

Let’s imagine you are trying to persuade people to live healthier! Can you create sentences that use the following features? Try to write at least 2 examples for each!

  • Emotive (feeling words) and exciting adjectives:

E.g. exercise is fantastic for your health and super fun!

  • Alliteration (words beginning with the same letter):

E.g. Happy, healthy humans!

  • Addressing the reader directly (using ‘you’):

E.g. You don’t want to miss out!

  • Rhetorical questions (questions that get the reader thinking):

E.g. Do you eat enough fruit and vegetables?

(Time to take a break and have some fun!)

  • Maths Task:

20 minutes on TTRs – have a go in the Studio to set your Rock Speed today and also try to complete at least one Sound Check. I have now set the tables so the Garage should also be more of a challenge for some of you.

Another website with free games you may want to investigate. Just select which area you wish to explore under the category tab and you will find plenty of games to challenge you!

Please complete the questions in your maths homework book.

Year 3 – pg. 12- 13

Year 4 – pg. 10 - 11

Have a look at the image below to help you with the column method.

(Now make sure you have had a play and something for lunch. What jobs around the house can you help with today?)

  • Afternoon Geography task:

This afternoon we are going to be finding out about another locality in the UK.

First, can you remember the definitions of rural and urban?

Next choose your own place around the UK you would like to investigate.

It could even be somewhere you have visited or gone on holiday to! If you can, try and use the internet, leaflets, travel guides and more to help you explore the locality. You could even use Google Earth.

Now, have a go at answering the questions below in full sentences using the information you have found. Like yesterday, if you get stuck – find a picture and use that as a starting point.

  • Can you now find it on a map? Which county is it in? Which country?
  • Is it an urban or a rural place? Why?
  • Describe any of these that you can find there: water, things growing, buildings, facilities etc.
  • Would people live here? Why / why not?
  • What jobs might people do here? Why?
  • Who might visit this place? Why?
  • How is it similar to / different from where you live?

(Now it’s time to be active and get as much fresh air as you can. Maybe you could go for a walk or cycle with your family? Or make up a dance to a favourite song. Just make sure you stay safe!)

Please share what you have created or written today on this blog and don’t forget to ask for help if you need it!

Have fun!
