Start of Week 2- Woodpeckers

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 1:19pm

Hello Woodpeckers.

I do hope that you have all had a good weekend and you are getting used to the extra time spent at home.

We have had a busy weekend as a family. We went for a walk each day to our local woods. The boys took some paper and wax crayons and did some tree rubbings which they really enjoyed- you should have a go too if you get the chance.

I hope you are all getting on ok with your home learning packs. I will be ringing all the Year 4's on Wednesday to see how you are getting on. I know that Mrs North rang the Year 3's on Friday which must have been lovely for you. Do have a think of any questions you have for me for Wednesday and i will try my best to help you out.

If you havent had a chnace to look at the Scouts website it is definitely worth a visit. There are some really nice indoor activities that you can have a go at.

The site is https://www.scouts.org.uk.

Also have a look at the bbc bitesize website for a whole range of activities, including some division support for those that need it, as well as a wide range of science, maths and english activities and videos.

If you need any extra ideas I will have some addtional websites that I can add, later in the week.

Maths Estimating Game: (needs 2 players or more) Label some areas of the room/ garden to indicate number ranges such as 'fewer thn 5, 'between 5 and 10' ,'between 10 and 20' and so on. One player shows a collection of objects i.e. a bowl of dry pasta, a bag of marbles etc. the other player(s) has(ve) to go to the area which they think shows the correct range. If correct they get a point. Then switch. First player to 10 points wins.

Writing game- Mr Copycat: (needs 2 players or more) Mr Copycat could be a puppet or a toy. Mr Copycat says a sentence and the partner has to repeat it. Start with saying it and tehn with writing it. Each time you say/write it, tou have to add  an extra word, anywhere in the sentence. e.g. The whale swam in the sea- The Monstrous whale swam in the sea- The Monstrous Blue whale swam in the sea- The Monstrous Blue whale swam in the deep sea. See how your sentence grows and use your imagination to make it as interesting and descriptive as you can.

Let me know how you get on smiley.

I will add some more activities tomorrow.

Take care!
