Squirrels Year 1 & Year 2 02.11.2020

Date: 2nd Nov 2020 @ 4:12pm

Monday 2nd November 2020

Welcome back!  Hope you had a good half term break.

Wednesday 4th November -Friday 6th November 2020

Please bear with me as the blog does not appear to have saved this week!

so......

In literacy, we are learning the story of the Gingerbread Man which will help us with our writing.  I have stuck a copy in the homework book.  Over the next two weeks, please read this every day to your child so they learn it off by heart.  This will help them with writing their own story and develop their confidence as writers.

Common exception words- I have included a copy of the spelling test I did with them on Tuesday.  Please look through this so you can see which words to continue to practise at home.  Children who have mastered these words will be given a new set of words.

Reading - I am currently assessing reading which is on an indivdual system.  I hope to be finished by Friday so I can give new books that are matched to your child's accuracy level.  Please remember, you also have access to Oxford Owl and were given the log on details during lockdown.  Here you can access colour banded books.

Spellings- Your child will have spellings and a number challenge to learn each week.  These will be tested and given out each Friday.

Number challenge- Quick recall of number facts is very important when solving mathematical problems and reasoning.  In Squirrels, we start with number bonds then move to times tables.  The children will have a number challenge every Friday where they need to recall all the facts they have been learning in a minute.  Once they have recalled all number facts correctly three times, they will move to a new number challenge.  I have stuck a rocket picture note in your child's homework book with the number challenge I would like you to focus on at home.
