Good afternoon Kittens!

We have had a fantastic first week back at school. This week we learnt all about shape poems and created our own. In Maths Year 1 have been practising counting in 2s and 5s, please practise this at home too! We've started our new textiles DT unit 'How can two squares of fabric keep you warm?' We learnt the different parts of a needle and how to thread them. Next week we will learn how to create a running stitch!

In Reception we have started our 'Sunflower Challenge'. We became sunflower detectives and found lots of information through books and the internet. We became Artists and painted our own sunflowers, taking inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh. Then we explored some sunflower packets, finding out how to plant them next week and how many there were in a packet.

I have updated our class page gallery with some photos of this weeks sunflower learning, if you wish to have a look.

Next week our writing will be focusing on recounting a personal experience. For this I have organised an additional Forest School session on Thursday morning. For this can children please bring in wellie boots in a bag, as we will still have PE in the afternoon. Children can come dressed in their PE clothes, but they will need long trousers rather than shorts. They will still be having their normal Forest School session on Friday as well.

Just a couple of quick reminders:

Year 1 spellings this week are: play, made, treat, secret and said. These are on Edshed to practise!

Keep reading every day and recording this in your reading record. It would be great to have our class as readers of the week!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Mrs. Atkins :)
