Bentley Weekly Update 14/02/2020

World Book Day Special Lunch – We have only heard back from a few families about the special WBD lunch on Thurs 5th March. The choices are meatballs with pasta bows, or macaroni cheese. Dessert is chocolate crunch with chocolate sauce or fruit. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child doesn’t want a lunch on this day and you will send in a packed lunch. Deadline for orders is 28th Feb at the latest.

Wolves’ Tea Party – We had so much fun this week at our tea party!!! It was fantastic having so many grandparents in sharing their experiences of growing up.

Parking and Driving – We have been receiving complaints unfortunately, from local residents, upset at the way some of our parents have been driving and stopping in the area around the school. Most parents are very sensible and thoughtful but a few have been driving at dangerous speeds along the road approaching the school and we have had reports that some parents are just stopping their car in the middle of the road to get children out of the car (and we don’t mean older ones that are capable of getting out of a car quickly and safely on their own). We have also worryingly had a couple of near misses when children have run across the entrance to the staff carpark when a car has been exiting. Please use the wooded area gate if you are parked up the road. Please, for the safety of all our children, think, and kill your speed, not a child.

Parent Survey A survey will be going out to you all on the Monday after half term by email. Please take the time to complete it as it will help us to improve procedures etc.

Reading Challenge Adders and Wolves both had less stickers than last week unfortunately.

4 children in Adders did not achieve 5 reads

5 children in Wolves did not achieve 5 reads

10 children in Hedgehogs did not achieve 5 reads – that is half of the class AGAIN

Please record your child’s reads and support them to do as much as possible (older children can record their own reads).

Tractor visiting school – Our thanks to Ben who came in with his tractor and took time out of his busy schedule to talk to the children about farming.

Coffee and Chat Our next Coffee and Chat session will be held on Friday 28th February at 1.45pm, before shared learning in classes. We hope you will be able to attend to find out more about our curriculum development.

For Sale / Wanted – Do you have an item to sell? Or are you looking for babysitter or a cleaner? If so, why not advertise somewhere that all our families see every week? For just 20p a week, we can put an ad in the notice board on the playground. All funds raised will go towards the up-keep of the chickens. Just pop in to the office if you would like to place an ad.

Break the Uniform Rules Day Thank you all for your wonderful support. So far this has raised over £90 for the PTA.

Easter Bonnets – For those of you who are new to the school, we wanted to let you know about our annual Easter Bonnet competition. Children are invited to design and make an Easter headwear creation, with prizes available for the best hat / bonnet. This year the service and competition will be held at the church on Thurs 2nd April. All welcome!
