Bentley Weekly Update 10/11/17

Tag Rugby – A team of pupils from years 5 and 6 took part in a Tag Rugby competition this week against a number of other schools. Despite the cold weather, they persevered and demonstrated the skills they have been learning. Particularly impressive was the practice they put in during their lunch breaks in the run up to the competition, their dedication and commitment was very clear, well done to all you who took part. Photos were taken at the event and can be seen by clicking on this link www.pagepixsports.co.uk

PE Enhancement – Sport has definitely been the by-word this week, with the whole school taking part in a PE Enhancement Day yesterday learning to play lacrosse. They looked at the basic rules and skills of the game and had great fun trying to pass the ball to each other with the very distinctive lacrosse rackets (called pockets). We had great fun whilst learning a new game and keeping fit. Sports activities take place at different times during the course of the school week; please make sure your child has their PE kit in school every day! Thank you.

Wolves – Thank you so much to everyone who sent in cans for Wolves class to make special items for the Christmas Fayre. It is fair to say that we are now inundated with them and will not need any more, thank you. We do however need pretty serviettes; any odd ones at home would be great. A big thank you to all those parents who came in again this week to help with sewing in Wolves Class, your support has been invaluable!

We are having some challenges with named uniform in Wolves class at present. We have had quite a few jumpers in particular with no names and now other uniform that was named looks like it may have gone home with the wrong child. Please could you look at home to see if your child has accidentally picked up jumpers belonging to Malachi or Sebastian. They are named and we have checked in class and PE bags but have had no luck. Thank you.

Children in Need – As we mentioned last week, next Friday, 17th November is Children in Need. Children can come to school wearing something yellow in return for a £1 donation for the charity. There will also be biscuit decorating for 25p and a cake sale after school.

Years 5 and 6 to RHS – Just a reminder that all children in years 5 and 6 will be travelling to the Royal Hospital School on Monday to take part in Sing Up! alongside professional singers and performers. Parents / carers are invited to come along at 1:45pm to watch the children perform and children need to be collected from RHS at 2:15pm. All children will need a packed lunch and water bottle on the day.

Christmas Decoration Making – For those of you who are new to the school, we have an annual Christmas Decoration Making afternoon, which is a great deal of fun and a lovely way to spend some extra creative time with your child. This year we are inviting parents / carers to come along from 1:30pm on Tuesday 28th November and help the children make some lovely decorations. Do come along if you can.

Parents’ Evenings – Most parents have now signed up for parents’ evening slots, but a few still haven’t. Please log on to the school website with your parent login details and get booked on. If you are having problems with booking a slot, please call the school office, they will be able to help you.

Uniform, Coats and Jewellery – We have recently sent out reminders about school uniform and about wearing jewellery in school and we would like to thank the vast majority of those families who have ensured their children come to school in a suitable fashion, however, we are still getting some children coming to school with inappropriate earrings, footwear and non-uniform jumpers. There are also some children who are not coming in to school with a coat every day in this cold weather. If your child comes in to school with earrings other than small studs (no earrings to be worn at all on Mondays for those children going swimming), bracelets or necklaces (other than medic alert ones) or any other jewellery other than a small watch, they will be asked to remove the item and it will be kept safely in the office for parents to collect at the end of the day. If your child does wear earrings to school, they need to be able to remove them themselves for PE. Children also need a coat in with them every day in the winter months, as the weather deteriorates, children without coats will not be permitted to go outside during break and lunch times, particularly as temperatures drop. Thank you for your support.
