Bentley and Copdock Primary School Receives GOLD Kitemark Award

The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels of the Mark. Last year when we applied, we achieved Silver Kitemark. After filling in the application criteria using last year's success in sport, we are thrilled to say we have been awarded the Gold Kitemark Award.

School Games

The School Games consists of four unique types of competition:

  • Intra-School Competition (Level 1) -  An intra-school competition is a sporting activity taking place between pupils who attend the same school. For example, this can be in the form of an inter-class activity. These competitions should culminate in an annual School Games Day, or Sports Day, to celebrate a school's sporting success.
  • Local Inter-School Competition (Level 2) - A local inter-school competition is a sporting activity taking place between schools from the same area - either as a one-off fixture or as part of a league. These competitions may act as qualifiers for county finals or can be run as developmental competitions or festival events to meet the needs of a local area.
  • County Final (Level 3) - The county/area will stage multi-sport School Games festivals as a culmination of year-round school sport competition.
  • School Games National Finals - The School Games finals: a national multi-sport event where the young people in the UK will be selected to compete in a sporting venues.

Nationally and locally the School Games is being delivered through School Game Organisers (SGO), for our local area Ali Furlong is our SGO.
