Copdock Weekly Update 28/05/2021

Bikeability
This week our year 5s have been learning about safe cycling.  You may have seen them practicing around the village.  Everyone has done really well and progressed to the level 2 after the first day.  Certificates and badges will be quarantined over half term - well done everyone!

Ongoing Menu Changes
After half term, there will be a couple of changes to the menu based on popularity.  Both changes are on the week one menu: on Mondays the apple crumble and custard will be changed to chocolate crunch and chocolate custard; and on Thursdays the chicken and sweetcorn carbonara will be replaced with cheesy pasta.

Outdoor Spaces
We are currently reviewing the use of our outdoor spaces for play and lunchtime.  The children will be involved in offering ideas but we need your help with one idea please!  We want to set up a suitcase library for outdoor use.  If you have an old suitcase, not too large, we would love to turn it into a useful kit for outdoors.  Please contact the office if you think you can help.

Staffing Updates
We are pleased to inform you that we have now recruited a new teacher for September.  Miss Alex Barton will be joining our KS1 team, working alongside Mr Ross.  Alex has been into school this week to meet the children and will be joining us for some additional days next half term to get to know the children.  We will be holding our class swap day later in the year where Squirrels class will be able to spend some time together as a new group.
Miss Cross will be moving with our Year 2 children to Woodpeckers class to work alongside Mrs Collins.  She is very excited to be exploring some new areas of the KS2 curriculum.

Dates for Your Diary
Thursday 1st July - Our annual Sports Day event will need to be different this year but we hope it will still allow parents to join us during the morning to celebrate an Olympic themed session.  We will be splitting the event into KS1 and KS2 to reduce the number or children and adults together, but the children will still be working collaboratively in colour teams to have a successful event.  Parents with children in both key stages will be welcome to stay on site for the morning.  More information will be coming home soon but save the date!

On 15th June we will be taking part in the Young Voices Big Sing in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the most people singing together simultaneously.  This will also be an opportunity for us to raise much needed funds for The Place to Be charity who support children's mental health.  Visit https://www.youngvoices.co.uk/biggest-sing/ for more details. If you would like to donate you can text BIGGESTSING to 70085 to donate £1 (texts cost £1 plus one standard rate message), alternatively you can donate online at www.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/biggestsing - we will send reminders of how to donate nearer the time.

Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 9th June at 8pm to continue the planning for the summer fete.  Depending on the weather, it may take place in the beer garden of the pub, alternatively it could be virtual, in which case the details are:

Meeting ID: 899 4658 1271

Passcode: 927785
