Copdock Weekly Update 21/05/2021

Parent Consultations
Don't forget parent consultations take place next week.  If you haven't already booked a slot please do so via the website.  Slots are for 10 minutes and will be strictly adhered to.  Links will be sent out next week.  Please join just before your appointment time, the teacher will be aware that you are waiting and will let you in as soon as they are able.  In order to accommodate everybody, please ensure only one slot is booked per child - it would be appreciated if parents can coordinate and combine a convenient meeting time.  If you are unable to attend any of the times available, please contact the office.

Year 2 Maths Club - Day Change
Please note that the year 2 Maths Club will be held on a Tuesday from next week (continuing after half term), no longer on a Wednesday.

Foxes Dodgeball
This week we had a visit from Ipswich Town Football Club's Community Trust who took Foxes for a lesson on dodgeball.  The children had a great afternoon developing their individual skills alongside their team skills and they now have a new enthusiasm for the sport.

Squirrels Extra PE
Next week, Squirrels class will need to come into school in their PE kits on Monday as usual, but also on Thursday and Friday too please.

Bikeability
Year 5s will be taking part in bikeability next Thursday and Friday.  Please bring your bike in on Thursday morning, they can be kept on site overnight - usually in the hall, for use on Friday.  Please refer to the letter to check what clothing is required, and don't forget to bring a helmet.

Raffle Tickets
Each family has been sent home with 5 books of raffle tickets for the Copdock and Washbrook Community Fete being held on 17th July raising funds for our school.  This event is being organised by the PTA, but we are working with the village hall, and the parish council have kindly allowed us to use the field too.  If you require any more tickets, please email [email protected] and we will arrange for them to be delivered to school.  Any unsold tickets are to be returned to the office, any sold ticket stubs are to be returned with payment to the office or a member of the PTA team by 9th July.  If you prefer to pay by another method please let us know and we can advise our bank details for a transfer.  The raffle will be drawn at the event.

Wild Flower Homework
Mrs Kell sent this feedback:
It was lovely to see both the school and the children exploring and learning about the wild flowers in their local environment.  The children completed some wonderful homework, which was a joy to read.  I love the addition of colour to the illustration of the plants and the pressed borage flower was a real bonus.  Thanks to all the parents who supported their children.  I hope the children enjoyed looking and learning about their local wild flowers and will continue to explore their local environment over the coming summer.

Drop-off Reminder
Please arrive just before your drop-off time and remain with the children until they are invited onto site, they should not be left unattended.  Could we also please request that the children refrain from climbing up the bank and playing on the flower beds.  We are trying to encourage some floral growth in these areas - the children may even be able to name some of the wild flowers if they spot them.

Walk to School Week
The School Council have done a fantastic job, promoting Walk to School Week.  A few weeks ago they asked the children how they travelled to school.  Using this information Brendan created a PowerPoint and the School Council used this to lead an assembly and create a leaflet about the benefits of walking.  This week, School Council asked how the children travelled to school and were pleased to see that there was an increase in people walking to school as well as to other places such as shops and friends' houses.  The older children in Foxes class have been changing their behaviour over a longer time as they have been learning to become more independent and walk to places without an adult.  Well done to the School Council!

Guidance from Suffolk Local Authority
There are still positive COVID cases across Suffolk schools and settings with bubbles having to self-isolate.  Please continue to encourage all families to continue with regular lateral flow testing at home to help stop the spread of the virus.  Testing kits are free to order and available from Order coronavirus (COVID-19) rapid lateral flow tests - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).  Families can also pick free testing kits up from their local pharmacy and libraries.  A full list of where families can collect lateral flows kits from can be found here Find where to get rapid lateral flow tests - NHS (test-and-trace.nhs.uk).  Rapid lateral flow tests are for people who do not have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, if anyone is showing symptoms of COVID-19 they should obtain a PCR test.  Helpful support information can be accessed here.

The Big Ask
We will be exploring this during our assembly next week.  The Children's Commissioner for England is encouraging all children to complete this online survey to share their views about what children need to live a healthy life.  It will only take 5-10 minutes so please try to support your child to have their say!  Deadline for completion is 28th May.  https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigask/
