You Sank My Tea Clipper!

To raise a bit more money for our MacMillan afternoon, we are having a bit of fun with a classic game with a twist. A picture of a tea clipper will be placed somewhere on this grid.

It will cover three squares in all so there will be three prizes, the main one being the centre square for a cash prize . If you want to take part, select a square from the grid, entry £1 per square. Please send money in with your child's 50p in a sealed envelope, naming your square. If that square is not available we will allocate the nearest square to your selection.

Flu Immunisation

You will have received a letter this week via our email from the NHS with regard to flu immunisations.  The letter is also available via the school website along with any letters we send http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/page/copdock-letters-2020-21/80608.  The immunisations will be taking place in school on Wednesday 18th November.  You must either give consent, or decline it, online via the link on the letter.  The link is also below.  The deadline for confirming consent is Thursday 24th September.  Please do not reply to school.  https://immunisation.cambscommunityservices.nhs.uk/Flu?id=743f33b9-3b18-492a-8daa-5d135c5fb54e

Data Collection

It is imperative that we have up to date contact details for parents - both phone numbers and email addresses.  If you have yet to reply regarding data collection, please do so now.   If nothing has changed, it would be really helpful if you could just reply to the email requesting information stating that.  Thank you to those who have already returned their amendments.

Uniform Order

Please be aware, a uniform order will be sent home (via email) early next week.  The deadline for submitting orders will be 28th September.  Please put orders and monies in a clearly labelled envelope, in the post box at the top of the ramp, this is checked daily.

Street Food Menu

We have an exciting change to the menu coming up on Thursday 1st October.  Please see the attached posters for further details.  This will be available to all children, regardless of their key stage.  There is also a school packed lunch option available if the Great British Burger Bar doesn't excite you.  KS2 children will be charged the regular £2.40.  We need to know in advance how many people would like this option so please let us know as soon as you can, but particularly by next Thursday 24th - even if your child is in KS1 and doesn't pay, we need to know numbers to pass onto the kitchen please.  If we do not hear from you, we will assume you will be sending your child with a packed lunch on the day.

Next Week - KS2 Hot Dinners/KS1 School Packed Lunch

Please note that KS2 children will have the hot dinner option for the next fortnight.  KS1 children will be able to have a packed lunch supplied by the kitchen.  Details of what is on offer is on the menu as per the website and previously circulated via email.

KS2 Football After School Club

You may remember we asked you to express an interest in an after school club.  We are delighted to announce that we have an ITFC coach to run the club for 4 weeks from Tuesday 22nd for KS2 children at a cost of £15 for the course.  This is being subsidised by the school. If your child would like to participate, please complete and return the booking form (emailed earlier this week and also attached to this email) directly to the coach.

Bikeability

For those in year 6 who are planning on taking part in bikeability next month, please ensure you return your consent slip by 25th September (next Friday).  Thank you.

Piano

One of our wider school community has a piano on offer.  If anyone is interested please contact the office for further details.

Covid Guidance

There has been a lot of confusion recently about when to get tested for Covid-19.  Suffolk County Council have sent the following information out to schools to share with parents.

In order to protect Suffolk residents, ensure the safe and effective delivery of educational services and prevent the COVID-19 testing system from becoming overwhelmed, it is important that schools and parents follow the below advice for the management of children who may be displaying symptoms of COVID-19orthe common cold.

You can only be tested if you are displaying one or more symptoms of COVID-19. In adults and children these are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Anyone with these symptoms should firstly self-isolate and get tested, requesting a test via the online portal or via 119 if they do not have internet access.  As mentioned above, there is currently a high national demand for testing and Suffolk residents may experience difficulty in securing a test. The best advice for accessing testing is to use the online portal, and if at first unsuccessful keep checking each hour as more testing slots will become available during the day.

If children are experiencing common cold symptoms (such as a runny or blocked nose, and/or a sore throat), and DO NOT have any of the above COVID-19 symptoms plus do not fall into either of the following categories:

  • a household member has COVID-19 symptoms or has had a positive test result in the last 14 days
  • the child has been identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 case through NHS Test and Trace or local contact tracing efforts

They should not be excluded from school and may continue to attend school providing they are feeling well enough to do so. Schools should not request that the child has a COVID-19 test before returning to school.
Parents of children with common cold symptoms who do not have any of the 3 COVID-19 symptoms listed above should not request testing for their child.
