Copdock Weekly Update 12/07/19

Newsletter – 12th July 2019

THIS WEEK:

School Council:  Following successful speeches on Monday, a representative from each year has now been elected to the School Council.  They are Toby, David, Brendan, Isla, Cassie, Saffren and Abigail B.  Well done everyone.

Minsmere Trip:  Woodpeckers had a lovely day at Minsmere this week where they took part in pond dipping – catching all sorts of different wildlife to examine, they also took a trip to the beach where some of the children took a paddle in the choppy waves.

Foxes Flute Recital:  Foxes parents thoroughly enjoyed seeing how well the children have developed their flute playing this term.  The children loved sharing this with their audience too.

School Reports:  Thank you to everyone for your co-operation in collecting school reports this year.  If you have yet to receive a hard copy, please come to the office where you will be able to sign for it.  Please return the comment slips as soon as possible.

Foxes Thursday:  Foxes and Adders came together on Thursday and then split into years 5 and 6.  Year 6 headed to West Suffolk College for a Big Bang Science day, whilst year 5 went to the copse for some forest schools activities.  Both groups had a really fun and informative day.

Cake Sale:  A big thank you to all the parents and children who remembered their pennies after school on Thursday for the cake sale.  Happily, the cake sale spilled into Friday too!  The PTA was really pleased with the money they raised towards the prizes etc for next week’s Summer Fayre.

Kidzfest Tickets:  Whilst selling cakes, the PTA were also selling raffle tickets to win a family ticket to Kidzfest next weekend.  There will be one last chance to be entered into the draw on Monday after school where tickets will be available on the playground.  The winning ticket will be drawn in assembly on Tuesday.

Final New Starters Session:  Our new starters have completed their induction and are all really looking forward to starting for real in September.  We hope they have enjoyed their sessions as much as we have enjoyed meeting them.

Vocabulary:  As we come towards the end of the year the words to be heard at home are diminishing.  Please take a look at the table to see the latest words.  We look forward to picking up our vocabulary again in the autumn term.

NEXT WEEK:

Squirrels Rewards:  Squirrels class (year 2 and some year 1 children) have been lucky enough to achieve their class bucket reward and have elected to have a class disco on Tuesday.  They are welcome to bring disco clothes into school to change into.

Year 4 Rocket Science Day:  As per the letter, on Tuesday, year 4 will need to be in school earlier than usual with a packed lunch.  School uniform is required.  Children will return before the end of the day.  This is an eagerly anticipated trip to the high school.

Foxes Pleasurewood Hills:  Foxes final trip of the year will be to Pleasurewood Hills next Wednesday.  Children need to be in school at 8:15am to leave by 8:30am.  They will need a packed lunch and plenty of drink.  The children will need clothing appropriate to the weather – sun hats/rain coats etc as well as a towel and change of clothes.

Guitar:  Next week sees the last of our guitar lessons at lunchtimes.  Thank you to Tom for teaching, and a well done to those attending for showing real promise already.

Foxes Swimming:  Those Foxes who have been attending swimming will have their last session of the year next week.

PTA Summer Fayre:  Please do come along to the PTA Summer Fayre straight after school next Friday on the field – there will be lots of stalls and activities as well as refreshments.

We are asking for parents to support class stalls for 20min slots – please contact the class teacher to offer your services.

The PTA are asking for donations of cakes to be left in the office on Friday morning in readiness for the afternoon events.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • The PTA have kindly agreed to host a table at the Summer Fayre for any lost property which we have been holding onto.  Please take a look and see if anything belongs to your child – anything left at the end of the fayre will be disposed of.
  • Please remember to bring your raffle tickets into school this week – monies and stubs can be given to the office as can any unsold books – please do return them if you are unable to sell them.  If you would like more books please ask a member of the PTA.  Tickets will be available on the day.
  • As we come towards the end of the school year, please collect any medicines that have been brought into school during the course of the year.  We will not be holding these over the holidays.  Please refer to the policy on the school website for confirmation of when and how we hold medicines in school if you are unsure.
  • If you missed the deadline for school photos, you can still order directly with Bentley Photographic, you will however have to pay for delivery.  Please visit their website for more details.
  • We have a heads up for you on some summer holiday homework!  Please could families start collecting the following CLEAN and DRY items ready for the autumn term:  Plastic bottle lids, any size or colour; Sweet wrappers, e.g. Quality Street; Plastic straws; Fruit net bags; Yoghurt pots; 2 litre fizzy drink bottles; Plastic cutlery; and bring them into school in September in a carrier bag that we can also re-use.  These will be used for a Recycling and Art Project.
  • When considering things to do over the holidays, please take another look at the parental controls and screen time leaflet on the website http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/page/keeping-children-safe/20713
  • Our school reading challenge has ended today.  Well done to everyone who participated.  We look forward to kicking this off again in the autumn term.  We have an assembly coming up next week to encourage the children to continue reading over the summer – there is a poster on the website from Suffolk Libraries about it.
