Copdock Weekly Update 11/09/2020

Welcome to the end of our first full week in school.  Firstly, we would like to welcome all our newcomers, especially the foundation class who had their first full day today.  We would like to thank you all for supporting our staggered arrival and finish times - it is becoming a slick routine for us all.  However, can we please remind parents not to congregate on paths as this is forcing children to step into the road to get past them, whilst the number of cars has been greatly reduced (thank you again), it is still unsafe for the children.  Please ensure you do not arrive early for your allotted time either in the morning or afternoon as we need to keep everyone moving to limit the numbers of people onsite.  Although we do appreciate this is difficult with siblings in different classes.  Also, thank you for adhering to the one-way system when collecting your children - it makes it much easier and safer at the pinch points.

Data Collection

Thank you to everyone who emailed in to confirm the contact details we hold in school for you and your child.  It is vital that we hold current details for you.  If any phone numbers or email addresses change or need updating during the year, please do email into the school office so that we can update our systems and continue to communicate with you.

Virtual Family Assembly

Well done to everyone who joined us for our first Virtual Family Sharing Assembly.  Thank you for being part of it and bearing with us through the initial difficulties.  The link sent via email is a recurring event so should be valid for every week.  Assemblies start at 1:15pm on a Friday, please remember to join us as a guest with your name in the user profile followed by your child's name in brackets.  This will help us ensure we only admit people who are known to us into the assemblies.

School Council and Head Pupil elections - week beginning 21st September

Next week we will be chatting to the children about the role of Head Pupil and school councillor.  Although the roles will be very different, we are still hoping to involve the children in many tasks, such as leading whole school assemblies and reviewing and enhancing school life.  Meetings will be held outdoors and socially distanced to support our risk assessment.  Please chat with your child about these opportunities and support them to prepare for their speech to the whole school.  They will do this via video link as part of our assemblies.

Head Pupil roles are only applicable to Year 5/6 pupils but Councillor roles include Y1 to Y6.

Macmillan event - 25th September

This year will be different but you can still join in the fun... and have an excuse to eat cake and put your feet up!

All classes will be preparing a performance - a song or poem - to entertain you from afar via live video link.  Where possible, we would like you to send in your donations as usual to support Macmillan Cancer Support.  For a 50p donation, children will be able to decorate their own biscuit too.  Each class will be performing at a slightly different time to allow you to watch all classes if you would like.  We will also be holding some remote fundraising games too.  More information will follow about times and activities soon but save the date!!

Harvest - 30th September

We will be holding our annual Harvest service in school this year, collecting donations to support West Villa alongside our local church.  We will be reflecting with the children, how lucky we are to have many people who help us in food production and sharing our thanks.  At this difficult time, many families are heavily reliant on other people's generosity.  We thank you in advance for your contributions which will be collected at the school gate on arrival.

Blogs and homework

We have had a few questions about homework this week so thought it best to clarify.  All classes will have a weekly blog which will identify the pages to be completed in the homework booklet sent home EACH EVENING.  Children will have completed a task in class to remind them of this area of learning and the booklet is important to support understanding of what has been covered in class.  This will ensure any potential gaps in knowledge, or areas children have forgotten, are quickly recapped so we can move onto new learning.  Much of this should be familiar to the children and should therefore only take 5-10 minutes each day.  We need your help to ensure this happens so together we can support your child.  Blogs for each class can be found at the top of the website page if on a computer OR at the bottom of the page if using the app.

Bikeability

Year 6 will be able to do do bikeability on the 8th & 9th October which they missed out on in the summer term.  More details will be sent home next week.

PGL Postponed

Given the current circumstances, unfortunately our Foxes' residential cannot take place this term.  However, we have postponed it until 8-12 March and are hopeful that we will be able to go ahead then.  Obviously more information will be shared nearer the time.

Spelling Shed

Please note that KS2 children have had new passwords set for Spelling Shed this week.  They should have a copy of them in the front of their Rhinos.

Positive Parenting Booklets

We still have some copies available of the postitive parenting books for 4-8 year olds and 8-12 year olds.  These are aimed at children starting school or transferring to a new key stage.  If you would like a copy please send in £1 in a named envelope and pop it in the post box at the top of the ramp.

School Lunches

Please note there has been a revision to the Week 1 Thursday menu - the revised menu is now available on the website and attached to this email, please refer to it for dates and meals.  Next week is Week 2 and the hot option is available to KS1 children, KS2 can order a school packed lunch at a cost of £2.40 per meal.

Covid letter from Suffolk County Council

Please find attached a letter from Suffolk County Council to parents/carers about Covid-19 in schools.

After School Club - Football

Woodpeckers and Foxes will have a new coach for their PE lessons who could be willing to run an after school club for us if there is sufficient demand.  It would be on a Tuesday from 3:15 until 4:15pm for KS2 children for a nominal fee.  Could you please contact the office to let us know if your child would be interested so that we can guage the validity of running the club.

Travelling to School

Suffolk County Council has produced 5 videos with the latest advice on travelling to school – with particular emphasis on COVID-19 precautions.  We are very keen to ensure that the return to school is as smooth as it can possibly be, in a world that is not smooth in the slightest!

The videos are 3 minutes long.
