Bentley Weekly Update 24/01/20

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘bottom’ and ‘early’

Yr1/2 - ‘senses and ‘design’

Hedgehogs – ‘climate’ and ‘features’

Adders – ‘significance’ and ‘proportion’

Pupil Questionnaires – Every child will be coming home today with a questionnaire to complete as homework. Please return them by Tuesday at the latest. Thank you.

Wolves Bird Watch – Wolves class will be holding a bird watch this coming Friday. If you have binoculars or any books about birds that your child could bring in, they would be ever so helpful.

Reading Challenge 5 reads a week at home is so, so important in helping to develop children’s reading. Lots of children achieve this every week, but still a lot do not. Every time a child does 5 reads, recorded by parents / carers, in a week, they receive a sticker and certificates when they reach particular milestones. This week:

3 children in Adders did not achieve 5 reads

8 children in Wolves did not achieve 5 reads

10 children in Hedgehogs did not achieve 5 reads – that is half the class!

Next Friday, we would love to see every child in the school achieve 5 reads. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if need any ideas or tips on how to get reluctant readers reading. And don’t forget, for the very little ones, sharing a book with a parent and being read to counts as a read, and if your child has a reading comprehension task set for homework, that also counts!

Hedgehogs Spanish Day – On Wednesday, Hedgehogs will be having a Spanish Day, looking at the culture, food and points of interest of the country. If you have any artefacts from Spain that you would be willing to bring in for the children to see, we would very grateful.
