Bentley Weekly Update 20/09/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘more’ and ‘heavy’

Yr1/2 - ‘construct’ and ‘select’

Hedgehogs – ‘toxic’ and ‘prehistoric’

Adders – ‘predecessor’ and ‘diminishing’

Adventure WeekChange of pick up Thursday – Please note that pick up on Thursday will be from the Lemon Hill car park in Tattingstone, NOT the Alton Water Sailing Club. The car park is just after the bridge over the water at Tattingstone. Adders have an exciting week planned next week. Parents of children in years 5 and 6, please check emails everyday as there will be a list / reminder sent out every day next week, with information about the next day.

Circus Workshops – All children will be travelling to Copdock on Tuesday to take part in FREE circus skills workshops being provided by Circus Ferrel. They will be transported by either mini-bus or in a staff member’s car. All children will be brought back to Bentley by the end of the school day.

Circus Tickets – Tickets for the 2 shows being put on by the circus are available from the school office at the reduced price of just £6 per ticket. The shows will be at 6pm on Monday Evening and 3:45pm on Wednesday.

Macmillan Coffee and Cake – We Need Your Baking Skills!!! As you will have seen on the calendar and on posters around school, our annual fundraiser for Macmillan will be held next Friday, from 2:15pm. We need donations of cakes (baked or faked, we don’t mind) in to school on Thursday afternoon preferably, or Friday morning so we know before the event how many we have got. If you would like your child to participate and receive a drink and a cake on the day, please send 50p in a marked envelope no later than Thursday 26th please. Only children who have brought their money in by Thursday will receive a cake on the Friday. We thank you in anticipation for your support with this as it allows us to plan for numbers rather than risk being left short on the day. The event itself will include performances from the children, some fun and games, and of course tea, coffee and cakes! Entry is just £1.50 per adult and 50p per child. Bring your loose change and join in the ‘Dunk The Biscuit in the Cuppa’ game.

PTA News – This year’s exciting Race Night will be on Saturday 5th October, 6.30 at Bentley Village Hall. Tickets just £2 each. This is always a fun evening and a great social event for parents to meet up with each other. Do come along if you can. Finally, 100 club money and slips to be returned by next Friday 27th September.

Harvest Festival – Quick reminder that the Harvest Festival will be held next Wednesday, at the church, from 2:30pm. Everybody is welcome! Please bring any donations of food into school from Monday onwards; all food donations received will be sent to Ipswich Homeless Families, a great local charity. All children need to be collected from the church at 3:15pm please.

Aldi Vouchers – Thank you to those families who have already brought in vouchers from Aldi for a chance to get sports kit for the school. We need as much help as we can get being such a small school, so please spread the word with family and friends that we are collecting the vouchers.

Lost Clothing – Children can easily pick up items of clothing (particularly jumpers) belonging to another child by accident and take them home. Please ensure everything is labelled. Please could you also check at home to see if anything has been brought back by mistake. In particular, we are looking for jumper with the initials MS tippexed into the collar. Malachi’s Mum bought this brand new last Monday morning and it went missing that day!!!! It is clearly marked with his initials and may be languishing in a washing basket somewhere, please have a quick check at home. Thank you.

Fencing and Archery Workshops – Children in years 2-6 will be taking part in these exciting workshops at Copdock next Friday. They will be transported by either mini-bus or staff member’s car. They will be brought back to Bentley before the end of the school day.

Hedgehogs Library Visit – Hedgehogs will be travelling to Capel St Mary Library on Wednesday 2nd October. They will be transported by either mini-bus or staff member’s car. They will be brought back to Bentley before the end of the school day. All children in Hedgehogs will need a packed lunch on this day.

Earrings - We seem to have an increasing number of children having their ears pierced recently. For PE we ask all children to remove earrings as this is a health and safety consideration. Unfortunately, a strip of tape will not prevent serious harm if a child is hit by a ball or knocked into on the ear. If this is the only option then enough tape should be used to ensure the earring does not penetrate the bone behind the ear should an unintentional blow be received. Tape should be supplied as the school does not keep this for PE use and children must be able to apply this themselves. Retainers are an option, although again, this will not prevent an earring being caught and torn from the ear if contact is made. When teaching PE, staff will assess whether it is safe for a child to participate in any activity if earrings are not removed. The guidelines are set out in the Association for Physical Education

Can we please also remind you that only simple stud like earrings should be worn in school at all times. Thank you in anticipation for your understanding and support.
