Bentley Weekly Update 20/04/18

Special Family Assembly – We have the most fantastic families here at Bentley, and as a group, our families managed to make an amazing £935 profit during the recent enterprise scheme. A celebration of this achievement will take place during a slightly extended family assembly next Friday, 27th April. The assembly will start at 2:30 pm instead of the usual 2:45 pm. Do come along if you can!

Year 6 Computer Science Festival – Selected children from Year 6 will be travelling to Orwell Park School on Friday 27th to take part in a computer science festival. If your child has been selected, you will have been sent an email by now; they will need a packed lunch on the day and drinks.

Kingswood Payments – For families of children going to Kingswood in October, a gentle reminder that all payments must be in by the end of this term please. Please get in touch if you have lost your payment card and need to know the total owed.

Schools Farm and Country Fair – Hedgehogs had a fabulous time at the fair yesterday and came back full of new found knowledge about agriculture. The ducklings there were a huge draw! Please see the website for some beautiful photos of the day.

Sharing Learning – It appears that the sharing learning lists did not send properly over the Easter break, so we have attached them to the email with this newsletter. It can also be found on the website in the letters section.

Wildcats Football – We have been asked to share the following with you:

“Dear Parents, Capel Plough FC (an FA Charter Standard Club) are happy to announce that we have been selected by the FA to open an official FA girls Wildcats Centre on Saturday, 28th April (9.30am - 10.30am) for girls aged 5 -11. The SSE Wildcats training sessions offer girls aged 5-11 regular opportunities to play football and take part in fun and engaging activities created just for girls.

You can attend the sessions each week and meet lots of other girls who enjoy playing football, learning new things and being active. Each SSE Wildcats club is run by qualified coaches who are registered to the Capel Plough FC, CRC checked and safeguarded, who will help the girls learn lots of different skills, whether they’ve kicked a football before or not!

We will have professional coaches and cost is only £2 per session. Why not bring your daughter to our first session and see what you think? Places are limited so please contact us asap via email: [email protected] or take a look at our website www.capelploughfc.co.uk for more info.”

Eco Council – Please could Eco Council members bring old clothes in again to keep in school for when we are working on the gardening. Alternatively, please email to say you are happy for uniform to get a bit grubby on Friday lunch times. Thank you, from Mrs Duff

Year 6 – It is essential that year 6 continue to revise and complete their homework to the highest standards they can. Please support your child at home to revise (particularly maths) as this has such a huge impact on their SATs. Thank you, from Mrs Robinson.

Year 2 – As discussed at parents’ evening, your child will start bringing home practice SATs tests to do at home. The due date will be written in the front and the first one is due in on Monday. You can read the SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and maths tests questions to them, but not any of the reading booklet or questions. Let them have a go on their own first and then if you can go through it with them and mark any corrections in a different colour so I can see what they have done independently. We will then go through it in class. Thank you, from Mrs Rudge.

Wolves – If you have any books or artefacts relating to Canada or Australia that you would be willing to lend us, we would love to hear from you. Mrs Rudge is starting a new topic in Wolves class and is looking for interesting items, personal experience stories and information about these countries if you can help. Thank you.

Royal Wedding Street Party Lunch – On Thursday 17th May, we are having a special street party lunch with children able to choose from a selection of sandwiches, cocktail sausages and pizza bites along with cucumber and carrot batons, with a cupcake and fruit juice for dessert. We need to get an idea of numbers, so if your child would like to join in with this special lunch, please let us know. It will just be the usual price and free to children in Key Stage 1 as usual.

Bentley School's Christian Ethos

"Know that I am with you always," Matthew 28:20 We encourage the spiritual, social, moral and cultural development of the school family by embedding Christian values into everyday life.
