Bentley Weekly Update 14/09/18

Open Door Policy – Please may we remind parents that coming into the classrooms to talk to staff in the mornings is to be avoided, as teachers need the time before school to set up and plan work alongside their TAs. They also need to be with the children as they come in in the morning so are unable to deal with queries at that time as it would take them away from their class. Working in close partnership with families is an important part of our school ethos. Although we are always keen to get the children in and engaged in learning tasks very promptly in the morning, teachers are usually accessible at the end of the school day. If you have any questions or need a quick chat about any concerns feel free to call in after school; alternatively make an appointment in advance so we can give you the appropriate time and space to discuss your queries. The office is staffed from 8:45am to handle any urgent queries or book appointments. Thank you for your cooperation.

Drums and Guitar lessons – There are currently a few spaces left for guitar and drum lessons on Thursday lunchtimes. Tom, the instructor, provides the lessons at a significantly reduced rate for our pupils versus the normal cost for music tuition. If you are interested in finding out further details, please email tom directly at [email protected] or on 07816 222639

Sports For Schools – Thank you so, so, so much to all those parents, grandparents and friends of the school, who collected tokens in the recent newspaper promotion. Thanks to your hard work, we have now received our kit for the school which included (among other things) rugby balls, tennis balls, footballs and bean bags. We are sure the children will put them to good use!

PTA Latest - There's a leaflet in children's bags with PTA info in. If you can fill it in and return it, that would be fab!

Our AGM will be on Friday 9th November at 3.15 in the school hall. All welcome. We have the roles of treasurer and cashier that need filling. If you would like to take on one of these roles please speak with Aimee. We do desperately need to fill these roles.

Race night tickets now for sale! Just £2.  All welcome, family, friends etc. We are also selling horses for £5 each. If you own the winning horse you win a £20 cash prize! This year’s fun will take place on Saturday 6th October – doors open at 6:30pm, races start at 7pm.

Flu Immunisations – Parents of all children in years R-5 will receive an email on Thursday with a link to an online consent form for your child to take part in this year’s round of immunisations. This is open to all children in years R-5 and is a simple, painless nasal spray. Please look out for this email and complete the online consent by 4th October.

Early Years Parents Meeting – If your child is in Reception, you are warmly invited to come along to a parents meeting at 8:45am next Friday, 21st September, to find out more about the exciting things they will be doing this term. Parents of children in years 1 and 2 are very welcome to attend also to share their experiences with our new parents.

Online Resources – We are trialling 2 programmes online, Spelling Shed and Rockstars Times Tables, that are fun interactive sites for children in years 1-6, to practice their spellings and times tables. All your child’s login details have been stuck into their log books / reading records and children need to access their account at home to complete tasks. We would love to get parent feedback about the programmes.

Homework – Adders have maths and English homework to be in by Monday and they need to keep practicing the spellings in their homework book, Hedgehogs have homework that needs to be completed by next Friday and spellings to learn for the test on Monday. Year 1 and 2 have maths homework, please only complete the pages indicated on the contents page. Spellings need to be practiced for the spelling test on Thursday. Please ensure your child’s keyword packets are brought into school, they are checked every Wednesday.
