Bentley Weekly Update 14.07.17

It has certainly been a jam packed week! As this is being written, the gorgeous smell of pottage is wafting through the school, making us all very hungry….

Tudor Day – Adders class have had great fun dressing up as Tudors today, rich and poor; we even had a Tudor executioner! Our thanks go to Mr Barker (Iona and Austin’s Dad) who came in dressed as Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Suffolk, and regaled us with the story of this local Tudor and his daughter, Lady Jane Grey, 6th wife of Henry VIII, and their gruesome demise! The children have been busy all morning producing beautiful pieces of Tudor style art and preparing food from the period ready to serve the parents this afternoon. It was great to see so many parents come along to our exhibition and museum and we hope you enjoyed the food and entertainment.

Pleasurewood Hills - Years 5 and 6 had a day of thrills at the theme park in reward for all their hard work this year. The weather held out and everybody had a lot of fun both on the rides and at the beach afterwards. The children tucked into sausage and chips in the evening before making their way home. Amazingly, despite the late finish, they are all looking surprisingly energetic and alert today!

Year 4 Science Day – We were very lucky to be invited again to take part in the Rocket Science Day at east Bergholt High School. The children made rockets using a variety of materials as well as investigating rocket fuels. Our thanks go to the High School for hosting this event, the children really did get a lot out of their visit.

Wolves Class – On Monday we have a day of exciting outdoor activities planned including a mini-beast hunt, some gardening and forest schools activities. Please could you send your child into school in old clothes (not school uniform) and shoes that you don’t mind getting grubby. They will still be doing PE as well on Monday afternoon so will need to have their full PE kit in school as usual. Thank you.

Brain Sticker Treat – The treat this term will be fun and games on the school field after lunch on Tuesday for those who have earned 13 brain stickers or more this term. We are very pleased that a very high proportion of children demonstrated their fantastic learning, growing their brains and getting the 13 brain stickers they need. Children will be brought back to school for collection as usual at the end of the day.

Metal Detecting and Archaeology Club – This half term 20 children have taken part in this special before school club and we have been stunned by the items they have found. They range from a 13th century belt buckle to a Thunder Cats figurine from 1986 with a huge collection of items from times in between. We have been surprised by the amount of pottery that the children have dug up during their archaeology and the number of small metal items from their metal detecting. Rather aptly, they even discovered a couple of Tudor items that ended up in the Adders’ Tudor museum. This has been a great success and we hope to run the club again next year.

Books Home – We will be sending home books and work next Tuesday, so please send your child in with a strong, good sized carrier bag on the day. Thank you.

PE Kits……again – Despite notes being sent home and it being put in the newsletter every week, children are still not bringing their PE kits in to school. Moving forward, any child who does not have their PE kit in when we are taking part in PE will need to stay in class and complete some work in there. It is important that children have their complete PE kits in every day.
