Bentley Weekly Update 13.10.17

Found – The items found a couple of weeks ago (money holder and DVD) still haven’t been claimed. If you think these items might belong to you or your child, please do get in touch with the office.

After School Club Key Stage 1 – As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, next half term, the after school club that runs on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15pm will be multi-sports and will be open to children in Years R-2. The club will run for 6 weeks from Thursday 2nd November to Thursday 7th December and will cost just £18 per child for the whole six weeks. If you would like your child to take part in this club, please email the school office by Wednesday 18th October.

Food Cans Wanted – Wolves class are in need of empty, clean food cans (such as baked bean cans) with the labels removed for a special make as part of their enterprise project. We would be grateful if you could save any cans as you use them and pass them on to Mrs Rudge. Thank you in anticipation.

Sharing Learning - The first week after half term will see the start of our shared leaning sessions in class - Friday 3rd November. These sessions are a special opportunity for you to come into school to share your child's learning journey so far and look through any books. For our Reception children, who have less written records of learning, the session is also a chance to explore the physical environment and let them talk you through and show you the activities they like to do. Class teachers will be on hand to answer any questions about the Early Years Learning Journey too. Parents and children have previously found this a really helpful way of sharing learning successes and identifying how they can support learning at home with their child. As last year, there will be comments from your child and their teachers expressing views on learning skills and progress so far this year. We really value the comments you leave too about how you feel your child has moved their learning on this year or the support you have given at home to achieve key skills. Reference to what they have enjoyed is helpful too.

This is a really important part of our home-school partnership, so we hope you can attend. We appreciate that some of you cannot escape work, so please feel free to catch your child's class teacher to arrange a time before or after school to come in and share this special moment with your child.

Parents Evenings - Y1 to Y6: Wed 29th 3.30-5.30pm and Thurs 30th November 5-7pm. As last year, Y5/6 will be holding longer consultations and there will be additional slots spread across the week at varying times. We will notify you once the website is set up so you can book your appointments. Reception children will be having another shared learning session on Thursday 14th December at 2:30pm. There will be an opportunity for Reception parents to speak to Mrs Rudge during this session.

Open Evening – The open evening for prospective parents is set for Wednesday 8th November from 6:30pm. If you know anyone who has a child due to start school in September 2018, please do let them know about the evening. It is a lovely opportunity to have a look around the school and meet the teachers.

Change of Menu – Next Thursday there is a change to the school dinner menu. The choices will be breaded salmon fillet or fish fingers or Quorn frankfurter hotdog, all served with chips. Dessert will remain the same, juice and a cookie.

Halloween Disco – Eco Council are organising a disco again this year. It will be held on 31st October 3:15pm to 5:30pm. Tickets are available from the office for just £2.50 and include a hotdog, drinks and a treat. If you would prefer a vegetarian sausage, please write on the envelope when you send the money in for tickets. Aimee (Hugo, Molly and Poppy’s mum) and Rebecca (Myles and Ben’s mum) have again kindly offered their face painting services. If your child would like to have their face painted on the evening, they will need to bring an additional 50p with them. School council will also be running a sweet stall on the evening for any children who would like to buy a few sweets; we would recommend a maximum of 20p to spend on the stall. Children can bring their costumes or party clothes in with them to school to change into for the disco. As ever, we could do with some parental help on the evening, if you can spare some time to help please speak to Mrs Duff.

Walk About – Thank you so much to those parents and grandparents who came with Wolves class on their walkabout Bentley. We had some intrepid explorers in the class who impressed us with their map reading skills as we wandered around our village. We have been looking at land use and what facilities there are in the village. We have had the opportunity to look at old maps of the village as well and compare them to what the village is like now.

Year 1/2 Football Tournament – Mrs North has been speaking to the children in years 1 and 2 about a football tournament coming up in November. She is just trying to see who would be interested in taking part at the moment, but some of the children have become convinced that it is taking place next week; it isn’t. When we have all the details we will contact the parents of those children who are selected to take part.
