Lego Tokens – Please help us to collect enough tokens from The East Anglian Daily Times and the Ipswich Star to get a set of LEGO® Education equipment. Tokens will be printed every day from this Saturday, 9th February. Our families and the wider community did brilliantly last year collecting tokens for sports equipment and books, thank you.

Words of the Week

Reception – ‘above’ and ‘below’

Year 1/2 – ‘identify’ and ‘common’

Hedgehogs – ‘ambiguous’ and ‘perimeter’

Adders – ‘antagonise’ and ‘robust’

Hedgehogs Wolsey Visit – Years 3 and 4 travelled to Copdock this week to see some actors from the Wolsey Theatre putting on a special, interactive performance. It was extremely funny and the children were actually falling about with laughter at some points.

Bake Off Finals – As this is being written, Laura in year 3 and Katie in year 6 are in London taking part in the Educate and Celebrate Live Bake Off Finals! A lot of planning has gone into this by the children and the grown-ups; we will update you next week as to how they did. Good luck girls!

Year 5/6 Basketball Competition – Selected children from Adders class will be going to Inspire Ipswich on Tuesday to take part in a basketball competition. The parents of those children involved have been emailed already. They have been training for the event over the last few weeks and we are sure they will do well in the competition.

Tractors into Schools – This annual treat, organised by the Suffolk Agricultural Association, gives children a close up look at agricultural machinery and a chance to ask a local farmer questions about farming working in the industry. We are very pleased, and grateful, that James Harris will be joining us again this year, bringing his tractor into the school on Tuesday. Look out for pictures in the EADT.

Children’s Mental Health Week – You may have seen on media that this week is Children’s Mental Health Week. We have a super program in place in school, to help boost self-esteem and resilience in our children; the peer mentors in Adders are an absolutely crucial part of this and do a fantastic job. ParentZone has produced a lovely guide to helping boost children’s self esteem; if you would like to read more it can be found at https://parentzone.org.uk/article/boosting-young-person%E2%80%99s-self-esteem-different-ages?utm_source=Parent+Zone+Newsletter&utm_campaign=48a3a1e5eb-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_02_07_10_54&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_1ee27d9000-48a3a1e5eb-179056721

Governor Vacancies – Sadly, Tony Wright has resigned as a parent governor due to work commitments. Therefore we will be looking to recruit a new parent governor as soon as possible. Paperwork will be sent home soon so look out for it please. We also have 2 other vacancies for governors so if you know of anyone with particular strengths in finance or HR please do tell them about our super federation and invite them to contact the office for more information.

Live Lesson on Story Writing – Hedgehogs and Adders took part in a live lesson this week that the BBC organised as part of Radio 2’s 500 words story competition. The children were inspired by the live lesson and, with imaginations sparked, are keen to get writing their own stories! 100s of schools took part in the live lesson and it can be found on the BBC website if you would like to re-watch it with your child.
